Are there any good online gunstores? (good=honest, fair prices, customer service) If anyone has a list or knows of a link page that would be great. And before anyone says "I should support my local gun shop"; there just aren't that many gun shops around where I live. The 2 that I have visited are extremely proud of their guns. :what:
Thanks,
Kenman

I know what you mean about being proud of their guns. I went to a couple gun shops today and it was crazy down here. they wanted $399 for a Keltec .380, $429 for Taurus Mill Pro 145, $379 for a beat to crap S&W .38 special (model 36 I think), $415 for Yugo SKS in fair condition, etc.. I would love nothing more to support my local gun shops and I have in the past but my lord, it is just outrageous in the difference in prices. I would love to have a Bud's or something like that down here.

One of my Local Gun Shops took a crap on me 2x and now I no longer do buisiness with them... they make most of thier money off of custom shotguns so I was just a drop in the bucket to them.

Except for Small Parts from Brownells and Midway, I do 90% of my buisness with the local Indoor Range/Retailer. When I say local, I mean 2mi away from my front door. Thier prices are better, often a few dollars cheaper than the Military Base.

Buying online is fine. If you find a good local shop (prices and service) I'll gladly pay an extra $20-50 for the local shop. My local shop will;

A. trade me guns if my new purchase is defective

B. do small repairs for free or cheap

C. Offer me some good advice when buying a gun. The local guy will/has sugested a cheaper gun because it will suit me better. He's honest about what he sells. He'll special order guns when the local chain gunshop says it can't be done. According to chain-shop guy, "Savage only makes a few lefthanded rifles, mostly for special customers:confused: " I guess my money wasn't good enough for him to call the distributor and order one.

MY local guy, "I can get you that, have you ever shot a left handed rifle before? I'm a lefty and don't like it. Mostly cause I'm not use to it. Let me call them right now. Are you sure you want that model of savage? Want to look at what else is avaliable first? Are you gonna use it for deer?"

Big difference. Now if I know what I want and local guy doesn't have it/can't get it/ wants too much (happens from time to time) I would get it online. I do get ammo online since local guy doesn't carry much surplus stuff.

Also keep this in mind. I just bought a Ruger MKIII for $320 from my local dealer. Online, I could get it for $279. However, after shipping +$25, transfer fee +$30, and back ground check +$5, that same gun costs me $339 to take home and I had to wait for it to get in. Even after tax, my local puchase was only $340 + $5 background check = $345 and I got to take it home right them (well, with a CCW you can do that anyway). Not to mention the fact that I have started a relationship FTF with my local gun dealer that is sure to bear more fruit then an anonymous buy on the Internet.

Now don't get me wrong, if you find a deal on the Internet no one can come close to, do it! I will, and have many times....

If you are looking used or NIB and have a FFL that will do a resonable transfer fee $30-50. this web site is very good

I used them for a 870 shotgun, but by the time I got done with the $45 transfer fee, and faxing paper work, I ended up saveing about $12.

Gotta give props to Ordnance Outsellers. They're a great company to deal with. Go my P229 from them and I'll definitely be getting another Sig from them one day.:D

Here's enough to get you started. CDNN is pretty good. Strike that. CDNN is very good.
+1. I recently had an excellent experience with CDNN. I purchased a 3" S&W Model 65. They're VERY hard to come by in the Cleveland area. They had one, in as described or better condition at an outrageously good price. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from CDNN in the future.

I bought a Glock 19 from Summit Gun Broker a couple of weeks ago. I also had a good experience with them. If they've got any left, I'll probably buy a Gock 23 from them in December.

I recently made my first online purchase from The Empire Arms.

Great customer service, good quality arms for sale there.

On a related topic, here's another thing to think about when deciding to buy online vs. local store: Sales tax.

Currently there seems to be a misconception that buying online from an out of state dealer means you don't have to pay any sales tax, whereas if you buy it from a store in town you do, so you're saving money if you buy online.

Now while the out of state dealer won't collect tax from you if you're not a resident of his state, you are in fact supposed to report these out of state purchases to your own state's department of revenue and pay the sales tax on it to them.

[waits for everyone to stop laughing]

Okay, this is currently more of an honour thing and truth be told most states' depts of revenue don't have the means to enforce it if you don't. However, most of the state governments have gotten together and are about to put into place a streamlined sales tax program that allows sellers to collect tax on purchases made anywhere in the U.S., outside of their own states. This means that you'll be paying the same sales tax on a rifle whether you bought it online from a different state or from your local gun shop.

Sort of takes away that particular advantage of buying online, eh?

So, not to take this entirely OT, but which state would get the sales tax? The buyers state or the sellers state? Can you provide a link to this proposed bit of legislation?

Can you provide a link to this proposed bit of legislation?

Actually, I'll start a new thread for this topic so we don't hijack this one... I'll put the link, etc, in there. :)
