Oops - I shot the kid's target

I miscounted lanes once at a patrol rifle class. We had 14 or 15 shooters (16 maybe?) and were shooting 200 yds open sighted. I was in lane 7, but miscounted by one lane. I put 5 from my Mini-14 into the neighbors B-27 target. o_O

Part of being human I guess...at least no one was hurt.

Stay safe.

The USAF wasn't known for providing any real firearms training in the late 60's early 70's. In fact I think we only shot once for practice and again for qualification. To qualify all you had to do was hit the target a few times. You spent more time cleaning than shooting.

Quite a number of folks had more holes in their targets than rounds they had fired. Others had none. If you had more you were qualified. If you had none or less than the required number you shot again.

Even back then many city kids had never fired a rifle until that day. I'm surprised there weren't more accidental discharges.

They pretty much ignored anything a trainee tried to say. I shoot left. The range officer insisted I shoot right. I qualified, but it wasn't my best day.

Never by accident, but if I'm shooting with friends/family I do it quite a bit. Played that battleship target game with my brother once...sunk one of my own boats just " to make it closer". He failed to see the humor, so next 2 rounds I shot his thumbtacks off.

I am embarrassed to say that more than once firing at another target kept me from qualifying expert in the service occasionally.

I download and print off targets, and take a selection to the range so I always am shooting at a unique target that no one else is using.

I did get somewhat accused of shooting at someone else's target back in the spring. I showed up to the range, there were 3 older gentlemen there already shooting. They went cold, let me put up my targets, then the range goes hot and we start shooting. After about 10 minutes one of the older men yells "Who's hitting MY targets" and gives me, the younger new guy, the stink eye. Wasn't a chance it was me, I had only been shooting at the 50 yard range up until then while he was set up at 100 yards.

Done it in jest on occasion.
New club member with a hot girlfriend. He was trying to impress her with his fancy scar 16.

With that rifle he would've missed the ground eternally. He starts getting irritated and she starts losing interest.
Sooooo. I decided to pop his target center of mass whenever he fired.
She regains interest and they take off shortly after. I see him again a weekend or so later and I ask about the rifle.

So I got a six pack of Guinness blonde for my good deed. He knew he wasn't putting that group on his target, but wasn't gonna let her know.

And normally it is the mag dumpers that repeatedly hole my targets at random.

You must be commended, sir, for your earnest encouragement of youthful twitterpation!
A man of wit, and also of action!
Well Done!:)
