Are there any states that permit open carry? If so where and what do you have to do to be able to carry in the open.

You can open carry in PA without any restrictions and without a permit. (Except for Philly I think) You only need a permit if you want to carry concealed or loaded handgun in your car.

Yes, you can open carry in AZ.
But what's the point?
It lets all the good guys know you're carrying a firearm.
It lets the bad guys know what side to attack you from.

SniperStraz, please re-read GA law. Georgiapacking.org has a lot of good info

O.C.G.A. § 16-11-128
Carrying pistol without license

(a) A person commits the offense of carrying a pistol without a license when he has or carries on or about his person, outside of his home, motor vehicle, or place of business, any pistol or revolver without having on his person a valid license issued by the judge of the probate court of the county in which he resides, provided that no permit shall be required for persons with a valid hunting or fishing license on their person or for persons not required by law to have hunting licenses who are engaged in legal hunting, fishing, or sport shooting when the persons have the permission of the owner of the land on which the activities are being conducted; provided, further, that the pistol or revolver, whenever loaded, shall be carried only in an open and fully exposed manner.

(b) Upon conviction of the offense of carrying a pistol without a license, a person shall be punished as follows:

(1) For the first offense, he shall be guilty of a misdemeanor; and

(2) For the second offense, and for any subsequent offense, he is guilty of a felony, and, upon conviction thereof, shall be imprisoned for not less than one year nor more than five years.

Open carry in Ohio

It's legal in Ohio but most are afraid to do so. Rumors that you will be picked up for "disturbing the peace", "inciting panic, etc. You could get hassled by police but they would probably have a hard time actually filing charges and sustaining them.

Some cities did have prohibitions on open carry but the recent state preemption is believed to have killed all of that although most people don't want to be the test case.

Actually, until March 14, open carry was required in Ohio if you had a CCW and were on a motorcycle. A few guys were pulled over for it, but AFAIK, no one was ever charged.

Open carry in Idaho is legal.

What do you have to do to open carry?

Well, you put your pistol in a holster and belt, strap it on around your waist and you're good to go.

Virgina

VA is an open carry state. There are a handful of places where guns are prohibited (airport terminals, courthouses, churches, etc.), but that's it. The only thing you have to do is be legally entitled to own the gun.

Also in Virginia, there is no license or permit required or even available to OWN or OPEN CARRY a handgun. You do need a permit to carry concealed.
