They where thick, I had half a dozen in view at one point. They where noisy buggers too, crashing through the dry leaves and cutting away at acorns. Didn't see a deer until 15 minutes after legal hunting on the walk back to the cabin. Still a wonderful day in the woods.

Number of years ago I had a red pinecone eater join me in my treestand. A 30-06 works fine, trust me I know 😉

The second day was better. Started out rough pushing two or three deer off my stand about 15 minutes before first shooting light.

Sort of hard not to when they bed down this close to you stand. The above picture was taken from my stand.

I didn't end up taking take anything but in the late morning I got to watch a young 6-point make unwanted advances on a group of three does. The rut seems we be going well if that was any indication.

The three does crossing in front of my stand.

The young buck after chasing the does into the food plot just up the hill from the stand. Just after I took this picture he took a serious try at one of the older does and she was having none of it and all three scattered around the hill top. Over the next few minutes I watch the does gather back together and head off the ridge. It was another good morning in the woods.
