I took my wife to the range for the first time today. She shot my ruger 22 and liked it although it is a bit heavy and with the target grip it was not very comfortable-- however she did very well. She also tried my ruger gp100 with 38-- too much gun for her. She tried my sig 228-- no way.

Question is, I found a used-- mabey 25 shots fired- walther p22 which is being held until tomorrow. It would fit her hand very well, but
i have heard some very mixed reports on the reliability and quality of these. The gun is the short barrell and they are asking 190.00. Is this worth it? or should I just have her get used to the ruger 22?

What are your opinions on the walther?

thanks in advance

Take this for what it is worth, as I do not own a P22.

I have seen multiple P22's have all kinds of reliability issues and generally just don't seem to be up to what I think of as Walther quality. I would say go for a nice Ruger, Browning or Beretta before the P22.

My two cents. I have a Walther P99 that we love and has had thousands of trouble free rounds through it so don't think of this as a Walther bash.

My two P-22's were early ones and were so finicky that after the third time back to S&W for service they replaced them at my request.

The replacements are still not as good as my Ruger MK II.

The P-22 does get high marks for it's small grip size-I used them to train my young sons. Boy, did they get good practice clearing jams, FTF, and racking the slide to strip a round from the magazine because the gun would not do by itself! (only the first 1 or 2 off the top of the mag)

We still have them, they are fun to shoot, decent accuracy, but I wish I would have bought Bearcats.
