Small Semi's for Small Hands

Ok, so the 5'1" wife wants a handgun in 22lr for plinking and such. Myself being a wheelie kind of guy took her str8 to a Ruger Bearcat. She thought it was cute, and felt good, but stuck to her guns on the semi-thing. She liked the feel of the Walther P22, and the Sig Mosquito. What are some others that she needs to check out? I have heard the Walthers while fun guns, just aren't all that accurate...are they minute of pDog at 25yrds? Anyhow, just looking for a list of smaller framed 22lr plinkers for her to check out before purchasing. Thanks in advance everyone.

I've never found Rugers and Brownings to be all that big for my hands, and I'm only 5'2".

But anyway, check out the Beretta U22 Neos. My wife has one and the grip is pretty small.

You also have the option of getting a 1911 with a .22 Kit. Glocks and CZs have a similar kit available, but their grips are a bit big.

HK P2000 9mm is perfect in my hands. Just a small suggestion when she graduates beyond a 22 lr.

Ruger makes a thin gripped semi in the 22/45 and I have small hands and really liked the Colt 22a (sometimes called a Cadet & not the S&W 22a).
Buckmarks and Ruger MKII are the best ones out there.

They aren't tack drivers or anything (I think ther MKII has that market cornered for the most part), but mine is accurate enough to keep me entertained through a brick of ammo. So for plinking, I think the P22 is just fine.

If there is already a 1911 in the family, you might want to look at a marvel precision .22 upper for it.

The slim grips of a 1911 can make it a good fit for small handed folks, and the combination of a SA trigger and the Marvel .22 is amazingly accurate.

I have small hands (I cannot use a CZ 75 because the trigger is too long of a reach) but LOVE my Browning Buckmark. It shoots better than I can and would have no problems taking it out for squirrels, rabbits, snakes <shudder>, or other small critters.

Especially fun w/golf balls, clay pidgeons, metal spinners and tennis balls.

Walther P22...are they minute of pDog at 25yrds?

If pDog means a Great Pyrenees then yes.

Prairie dog...maybe if they are blind and deaf and don't notice all the shots coming at them or if they are already dead.

I like my Walther. At 7 yards you can hold a 2-3" group. At 15 yards it starts to look like a pattern and I never bothered to try it at 25 yards all offhand. And before everyone says I am just a terrible shot, at 7 yards my .45 Colt is a ragged hole and at 15 yards they're still all touching again offhand. The Walther is the worst shooting gun I own. I think that the terrible sights play some role, but not all of it. However, it is a great little trainer (operates like a big gun), is light and is "fun enough" for shooting at cans, clays, etc.

I plan on getting a better 22LR semi in the future though.

The Beretta NEOS has a very slim grip, as does the Walther P22. An older model with a small grip is the S&W model 622. The Firestorm/Bersa FS22 may be another gun to look for.

Welps, thank you all for your input here. Come to find out, she actually likes the grip on the Ruger MKIII but just doesn't care for the weight. Sooooo, it seems like a Tac Sol barrel will just have to happen. I will eventually get a Walther p22 though, I just love the looks of 5" version.

They may be a little tough to find, but if you can get your hands on a Bersa .22 they are a lot of fun to shoot. 10 rounds, rubber grips, if you go for the Firestorm version of it. I have two (wife and mine) and love shooting them. They are the same lines as the very common Bersa Thunder .380 and fit great in the hand.

I have small hands and the Ruger mkIII was too big for me. Their 22/45 was a much better fit but I went with the Buckmark.

The Sig Mosquito is a good gun but it is ruined by an absolutely terrible trigger.

I fixed the trigger on mine with some time and a fine file but it was quite a long process to get it just right. It takes quite a while to disassemble the action, take a cut, re-assemble and test, make another cut etc.

However, after the trigger was fixed I am very pleased. The pistol is much closer in weight, feel and size to a larger caliber pistol. I found the P22 was just TOO tiny to be comfortable.

An original Whitney Wolverine. It's my new religion. Wonderful to hold and a lot lighter than the Ruger. Shoots just as well, with an excellent trigger, too. Everyone that's shot mine has loved it. One guy went out and got himself one after shooting mine.

My wife (5' 0") has a Walther P22 for the days she wants to shoot semi-auto. Very light, the grips are perfect for her and there's almost no recoil.

Try a Llama MiniMax in .380 if you can find one. It's about the size of my hand and mine is "dead on" accurate... plus it shoots a cartridge with a little more "oomph" than a .22. Biggest problem I have had with it is an occasional stovepipe, and I'm sure that I can fix that by working on the clips.

Buy your wife a Stare Firestar M43 in 9mm. Its all-steel design soaks recoil. Buy the 7-rounder version in a single stack magazine, not the 10-rounder version in a double stack magazine. Pick one with a serial number above 2,000,000. It's very accurate. Meek ammo can be cought at WalMart. She will get used to 9mm and can use it for self defense and concealed carry should she get serious. $350.

Try and find a Beretta 70s in .22lr or a Beretta 87. Both are single stack, small gripped, and surprisingly accurate for their size and very reliable.

Small Semi's for Small Women

Yo, My wife is 4'11" and 108 lbs soaking wet and not really fond of shooting any of my handguns with the excuse "they're too big and heavy" . I thought to myself "thats BS" for my daughter always wants to shoot them all regardless of caliber and she's not much larger than her mother. But, what the hell....after 41 years...you accept the fact that that's just the way things are. However, the sun shone and glowed brightly and the skies cleared and turned to a bright bright wonderful blue when we picked up a little Walther P22. My wife thought it was made just for her. She went to the range and started shooting the little pistol and the world became quiet and she turned and exclaimed to her breathless anxiously awaiting husband, "I like it". Oh GOD is good..
Seriously, the P22 has been a fine little gun and it shoots Fed 550 bulk pack without any problems and we all love it.
As far as accuracy is concerned, Don't expect too much over 15 yrds because you'll be disappointed. Yet for plinking and such you'll have a blast for it will provide you with hours of unequaled enjoyment.
Now, if your looking for more out of a 22 semi go Ruger MK series because they're hard to beat for quality and accuracy.
