Opinions: Comp-Tac Minotaur vs. Crossbreed Supertuck

I'm hunting a good holster for my 1911. These two keep coming up in repeated threads here & elsewhere for good, solid holsters that wear well, carry well, and hold the weapon securely and discreetly. FWIW, it looks like they can both be ordered with an open holster bottom so I can carry either a Government or Officer size.

From what I can see on their websites, they look somewhat similar, but I am sure that in reality they are different. From a few reviews, it sounds like the Comp-Tac is easy to take off & put on, if having to disarm for entry into a post office, school, etc. I didn't find anything about the Crossbreed.

If anyone has used them both, or know someone who has used both, I would love to hear opinions of them. In particular, I am interested in the ease of putting on/taking off - especially while dressed (i.e., in the car) and not wanting to pull off the belt, etc.; and their overall covert-ness.

I think they are probably very nearly identical in actual use. I have the Comp-Tac and think it's fantastic. I carry 24/7/52 and cannot imagine a more comfortable CC rig. If I go to the Post Office or Cop Shop I unholster my weapon in the truck and reholster when I'm seated again. I cannot imagine taking an IWB off or putting it back on while seated in a vehicle. Also, if I did take the rig off, I'd be gansta style with my pants around my knees 'cuz they are way too big! The MTAC is really easy to remove from my pants while standing, but putting it back on requires unbuckling my belt and unhooking the button at the top of my pants. I generally take the rig off and put it back on with my pants as it's much faster and easier.

The only thing I can say that is a real difference maker is that Comp-Tac sells additional kydex molds for your other guns so you can swap molds for different guns without buying/breaking in another leather back.

I just recieved my Comp-Tac C-Tac yesterday. I seems to be high quality, comfortable, etc. It comes off the belt easily with the standard clips, but why not just unholster your gun if it is just to run in somewhere?

I use a Comp-Tac spartan with the velcro clips. Thankfully I *rarely* have to leave my gun in the car, but when I do I unholster and put it in the glovebox. Not ideal, but removing the holster itself isn't necessary - the laws don't say anything about entering a gun free zone with an empty holster.

I have had both. The Comp-Tac is much nicer. The Crossbreed looks like something I made at home. Nothing against Crossbreed, they work just fine but they just aren't as nice. The Spartan is just like a nicer Supertuck...and cheaper too. I'm selling my Spartan for my Glock that I just sold and I'll probably end up getting another one or a regular mtac for my 1911. I guess I must like it if I'd buy it twice.

I'm wearing a Minotaur right now. It is the most comfortable holster I've ever worn. Oftentimes I forget I even have it on.

For comparison/contrast/perspective I own an all leather IWB holster (that currently has a 6 month wait) that is not nearly as comfortable as the Minotaur.

The comfort of this holster coupled with the incremental adjustments that can be made, and the ease with which it can be put on/taken off while fully dressed make this the best thing going in IWB holsters.

I almost forgot to mention the quality of this holster--the portion of the kydex that's fastened to the leather is sandwiched between 2 pieces of leather with soft backing against the body. The leather looks "finished" on all portions of the holster. You know you're holding a quality holster when it's in your hands.

I can't think of a single drawback or downside to this holster. I'm confident that you'd be happy with it if you get one.

Sorry, I've no experience with the Crossbreed.
