What are your opinions of the HiViz brand of fiber optic front sights? I want FOs for the front of my XDm. Dawson FO seem to be very well respected for that gun, but I think they only come in red. I find green FOs to work well for me. I can get HiViz in green.
Has anyone had any problems with HiViz. Are they generally well respected as fiber optics as far as not falling apart or tubes falling out?

Thanks

I have used HiViz for about 10 years on one gun. While unattractive, it is dang effective. No problems in those years, easy to change colors.

For the life of me I have yet to figure out why S&W put hiviz on the front of my 360pd snubbie?! I like the hiviz on my clays shotguns, cuz I can change em according to light condition, background, color targets, etc. -- but not on my bird guns. But, you asked about handguns - my opinion only now, I wouldn't have them because I probably wouldn't be able to aquire the sight fast enough in a SHTF situation - plus they really are not that good in low light - and no good in the dark (IMHO). The laser (I do have that) is OK in that it is still useful in most daylight situations (but don't come to depend only on it), almost all dark scenerios, and, you can stick a gun over a barrier without sighting in order to shoot. Finally, the hiviz is very durable - the nly time I have broken any is trying to swap one out for a different colour.

I use HiViz on most of my pistols that don't have night sights. I like the ease of acquisition with them. Funny thing is the only one I have broken was on a 22lr pistol, snagged on the open bottom holster on a draw. They do take some outside light to get them to light up well but other than that very nice sights.

i have them on my ruger markIII and they are definitely better than standard sites, especially in daylight. I think they are one of the best uses of money on a pistol which can be fitted with them

I have a set of fiber sights on my XD45 also, but they have tritium in them as well. They are visible in very low light (from the tritium), or in bright light (from the fiberoptics), but in low-to-medium ambient indoor lighting, they look like black sights.

They were put on by a previous owner. I wouldn't pay for them, myself. I don't think they're worth a ****, because in the low-to-medium light where you really WANT them, they don't work.

Night sights are a different story, and I do like them for a house gun.

I have them on a shotty (real good there) and 2 handguns which for me since worsening vision are a +.
one thing - if I'm useing a flashlight held in left hand with either shotty or pistol it seems to really glow then.
I say they are a + particular for shotty.

I think they're a distraction on a shotgun.

If you have even basic shotgun pointing skills, and your target is lit up with a flashlight, your peripheral vision will pick up the silhouette of the bead on the target. The glowing sights just scream "Look at ME!" when the way to hit something with a shotgun is to look at the target.
