I am considering trading a Glock 26 & 19 for a Romanian AK with 3 magazines, the bayonet, sling, a rail attachment, 200 rounds and $200 and he is driving 90% of the distance (2.5 hours) Thoughts?

You're trading both handguns? Sounds like you're trading $1000 worth of pistols for $6-700 worth of AK, I'd suggest sticking one of them on gunbroker and ordering an AK with the proceeds. That is not a deal I would take

Thanks for the replies

I guess it also depends on what they sell for where you are too. The AK on local trades would bring about $550-$600 around here with no extras. The Glock would bring less than $500 as they are. I feel like I'm doing alright, but it is hard to give 2 guns for one haha. That, and I am getting more interested in rifles than pistols...this week.

If this thing has a welded thread saver on it, would I be violating 922(r) by cutting the weld and putting a brake on it?

I would not trade both GLocks for one Romanian WASR rifle.

The WASRs turn up on the local traders for @600 to 675 here in MN and the GLocks would command @ $450 ea.

Unless your into the GLocks dirt cheap, your leaving money on the table.

Now if the AK was an Arsenal or a FIME Group rifle, that would be a bit different.

Best

Don

I appreciate all the replies, I can't help but notice, some people are refusing to recognize the additional ammo and attachment rails. Not to mention the $$$cash$$$

Two glocks at $400 each is $800. To me that is a realistic no bicker price for a used glock with two magazines.

His side to me breaks down in no bicker prices as;
Ak with 1 mag for $500. Extras would come with a new gun so I don't count them.
2 mags @ $20 each is $40
200 rounds $60

Plus $200 cash is $800.

Really comes down to which you feel would serve you better.

What he said. It's a wash. Personally, I would never give up TWO Glocks for ONE AK. Both are run-of-the-mill very dependable guns . . . but think big picture.

If cost and quality is the same always take quantity!

As others have pointed out money-wise it seems close to being an even up trade in terms of cash value. I guess I just don't hold with the idea of trading two Glocks for one Romanian AK. Guess I'm looking at the quality factor here because most Romanian AKs that I have examined (and one that I worked on for a friend of mine), don't come anywhere near the quality that can be found in one Glock, let alone two of them.

Sell one of your glocks for $400 - $450, save up a little extra and order a new romanian AK. You will love your AK, but I guarantee you will HATE yourself for trading 2 Glocks for it.

Yep.

I would sell one and buy an new WASR for $500.

I would do it if the sights on the AK are straight and it isn't beat up. But then again, Glocks don't do much for me and I like shooting AK's. Also since he is doing most of the driving you really have to factor in the cost of gas.

922r has to do with how many foreign parts are on the rifle. I believe there are sixteen parts on an AK that count toward the total parts that determine what makes it an "evil" rifle, including the magazine and it's component parts.

Typically, if you have a rifle with all original wood, you have to stay away from an original muzzle device. However you can get US made muzzle breaks and slant breaks as well as US made bolt carriers and furniture. I believe that the total is NO MORE than ten foreign parts on the gun. I would assume that it already has a Tapco trigger and sear so that is three parts right there. If you change the wood out for a set from Ironwood you will have brought the rifle into compliance with 922r no matter where the muzzle device comes from.

Below is a Zastava PAP that had zero US made parts on it as imported. I converted it back to double stack magazines and added a Tapco trigger group and an Ironwood stock set to bring it into compliance.

It shoots great and quite frankly, I would trade it for three Glocks

Right now you can get surplus romanian mags for $12 a piece and tapcos for $6. The bayonet doesn't add much. Don't know about the rail. Around these parts you can get 1000 rounds of Wolf for $220, that puts 200 rounds at $44. 600 for the rifle. I could sell each of those Glocks for 500 a piece here in Vegas. I see you as getting the short end of the stick. Sell both Glocks, buy a Yugo on Aimsurplus for 530(better rifle anyways), buy 1000 rounds of ammo and keep the change.

Well, good/bad news... the "kid" showed up to trade and he was 18, had to turn him away. I paid him for some of his gas. I felt bad, he drove a ways to get here. But I was uncomfortable giving a 18 year old guy 2 handguns.

I guess I should point out too that he had mentioned prior to meeting that he already owned a handgun. I assumed....and was wrong.

If it weren't for 18 year old kids with guns we would not have the USA as we know it today.

You've lost me. What does 18 have to do with not completing the trade? You do know that in the US you are a legal adult and can even join the military at 18 correct? Are there some 2a infringement local handgun laws you are not sharing with us?

Well, he informed me that he was carrying as soon as I got there and I know very well that he couldn't have a permit being 18… didn't want to contribute to breaking of the law, especially since he so readily put it out there. I support CCW but I also avoid trouble and always err to the side of caution.

Not to mention that in the state of Virginia, you have to be 21 to purchase a handgun... let alone two. Private sales may be different but I wasn't sure and wasn't going to find out the hard way.
