Hey all... I'm looking to upgrade my concealed carry gun, and I'm VERY interested in the Glock 36. Currently I'm carrying a Ruger LCP which I will continue to carry when clothing options are limited. I've owned and own several Glocks so I'm familiar with their function. I'm a fan of the .45ACP round and feel this is the way to go. I guess what I like most about the 36 is the single stack does a great job of slimming down the gun. I know I lose capacity but I feel the added comfort in a IWB holster is worth the trade off.
I guess I'm just looking for some feedback (good & bad) on the Glock 36.
Thanks in advance,
Chuck

I had a glock 36. Used to carry it all the time. Aside from the lack of capacity, IMHO it is one of the best ccw pistols around. I had Heinie Straight 8 night sights on mine. My only complaint was the bottom corner of the grip hit my palm funny.

You would then have the same carry combo I use, had the Glock for about three
years now. No issues and I can't think of any other gun I'd rather carry.
Had a longer reply but when I went to post it the miserable forum software
had logged me off and I lost it.....grrrr!

The good -
Holds 6+1 of .45 ACP
Light weight
Slim for a .45 ACP (the slide and most of the frame is actually only 1.00" thick)
Easy to install different sights
Felt recoil is less than a alloy framed .38 Special snubnose revolver with +P
Handles a variety of ammo
Best looking muzzle on a Glock

The bad -
Holds 6+1 of .45 ACP
Felt recoil is more than a Ruger LCP
Stock magazine base plate might give your pinky blood blisters (Pearce +0 extension fixes that)

:D

I just transitioned to a G36 from a Smith 457 I carried for about ten years. I can't say enough good about this gun, it does everything excellent. Accurate, handy, easy to carry, reliable, dependable. I got Pearce +0 extensions for the five mags I have:

I highly recommend it.

I shot the 36 along side the 30 and i hit way better with the 30.
It seems to want to torque a lot more and just don't fit right.
It is not a lot easier to carry either.
If I keep it she will be wearing a grip sleeve.
Feeling of the 36 to me reminds me of my Tokarev.
If the 30 is too big for your hands go with the G 27.
Good luck in your choice.
I expected too much I guess.

That used to bother me as well (lack of capacity) before getting one since my Smith 457 was a 7+1. Then I realized (duh!) that I carry a 5-shot .38 snubby all the time and don't fret over the capacity of that gun.

It would have been nice if Glock saw to the advantages of a 7+1 capacity and included a pinky groove in the frame, rather than have us so it ourselves with the mag extension. This alone kept me from getting one for years.

With the Pearce +0 extension plates, all is well again and I'm REALLY glad I decided to get one. Love it!

I cant help very much on the g36. I have shot one before and in my opinion it shot good. The grip was a little awkard with it being thin side to side but thicker front to back. I ended up getting a g23 to go with my duty g22 and back up g27. I carry both the g23 and g27 in a galco king tuck with little to no printing. The owner of the G36 I shot told me that he had some issues with it shooting budget ammo, but I used a mixture of wwb to blazer without any failures.

good gun, easy to carry. round off the hook on the front of the trigger guard to make it easier to reholster in an inside the waistband holster...

Some trijicon nightsights and the 25cent trigger job make for an excellent carry gun.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! Sounds like the G36 will be "the one". This has been an exhausting process.

I have a G30 which I like very much it shoots better than it should, changed out the sights for Trijjicon NS my self using a Maryland Gun Works sight pusher from Midway USA. The tool and sights together cost about what my LGS wanted for the sights with installation, and since I have three other Glocks its good to have a sight pusher for them.

I love my G36, I have Trijicon HD sights, Pearce +1 extentions and 3lb trigger kit. It is my EDC and I have NEVER had an issue with it!

If you just gotta use an aftermarket extension base plate, why 'Plus 0'?

Why wouldn't an aftermarket 'Plus P' magazine spring be added into the mix?

Pearce offers a +1 extension and I thought about it. It does increase the capacity to 7+1 and also the length of the gun but I did not want to take any chances with reliability. I have had my issues with after market higher capacity magazines and the potential for jam-o-matic operation. The +0 extensions so not compromise stock reliability and keep the gun compact.

It is an option worth considering, though, and I have not read of any performance compromises. I was just a bit skittish because of previous experiences.

Same question but a different slant.

Since you are thinking along the lines of reliability, why wouldn't you add a spiffier mag spring to the mix?

You bought the extension and took the mags apart, why would you not include new springs to accompany the new extension/floor plate?

If you are referring to my comment above, the +0 extension maintains the stock factory spring and floor plate position making no change in the function of the magazine. At least for now, that is what I want (no change in factory function).

I may experiment with a +1 extension at some point and see how it works and whether it extends the mag too far for compact concealment.

I just got this gun a couple of months ago so I'm pretty new to it. What I have works perfectly for now but that doesn't mean I won't tinker in the future (always do).

I don't care for it.

For only a couple 1000ths more thickness I would carry my G-23 instead.

Tried it, knocked my finger so hard I stopped after a few rounds. If it fits your hand great. Otherwise ouch

The G36 is my favorite carry of all the time (my favorite to shoot is still my 1911). I was surprised how controllable a small and light gun with a large carliber felt. SInce this is my primary carry, I regularly practice with it shooting chest size steel targets form 7-10 yards. I hear a gong on every hit shooting quite rapdily.

I also love how thin it is to conceal. During summer I wear in an IWB holster copy of the crossebreed holster. During winter I carry in a OWB Fobus holster under a fleece vest.
