For Christmas:

1) A variant of CZ 75 in 9mm
2) Beretta 92 Elite II
3) Browning High Power Practical

Obviously, the CZ has a price advantage. Considerably so.

I am looking for a full size 9mm. I already have two compacts, and I have enough .45's (for now.)

Anyone have enough experience with these to compare them? Thanks.

You have a holy trinity to select from right there. The one gun I'd throw in there to make it balanced would be a SIG P228/226 since you are talking about the finest of the all metal 9MM's out there.
You are leaning to the full sized guns I take it... Hmmm. Tough call. But out of these guns, given the choice.... I'd take the Beretta Elite II. Ask me again tomorrow though.

CZ. IMHO, you can pay more money for a gun. but you won't get more gun for your money.

go CZ. I just got my CZ75BD and love it. Day one at the range, I launched 200 rounds of WWB through it without a hiccup. For me the only thing I don't like about is the plastic stock. From recommendations here, I have a set of factory rubber ones on the way. That should take care of it!

Everybody will recommend their favorite 9mm. The fact is that there are a lot of good ones out there. I think of the three you've listed I'd go with the BHP. You can't beat the feel of a Browning. Just don't compare the trigger to a 1911. Out of the box a BHP trigger may not feel that great, but they do wear in nicely, but will never have the short reset of a 1911.

Of the ones you listed, I'd go with the Browning High Power.

If you consider Polymer frame pistols, I'd go with the Glock 17. I prefer pistols that have the same trigger pull for every rd - no double action to single action. I prefer either cocked and locked or double action only (Glock says safe action).

My experience with both of these pistol types have been extremely positive with the Glock having the edge in resistance to the elements (won't rust) and ease of maintenance and repair (if ever needed).

Of course, their intended (or potential) use and how they fit your hand is the real key.

As always, YMMV.

Based on my personal expierience with these two fine weapons (I'm leaving the Beretta out as I don't much care for it) I would say go with the CZ.

The ergonomics on both are very good if not the best in the steel pistol world. For me, its a toss up. Both guns fit my hand very well and I can't say one is better than the other. The Hi-Power is thinner from the factory, and has a shorter trigger reach. This doesn't matter to me as I can get a good grip on either and reach the trigger on the CZ with ease.

The operating principle of the two weapons is a wash. Since Hi-Powers are available in DA, I can't decide. My CZ did seem to give itself a trigger job after I had about 700 rounds through it. The trigger did smooth up although a gunsmith could slick it up even more. Doesn't matter as I ain't picky.

Accuracy is fine with either although I can manage tighter groups with the Hi-Power. The HP does sport a smaller magazine capacity which IS a problem in my book. The CZ really wins here. Oh, all (at least the majority) of CZ's new mags are made by Mec-Gar. Quality is just fine. Standard capacity magazines are more widely available for the HP, but quality can be spotty. Only buy from a reputable company if you plan to carry. One thing some have mentioned is that some CZ's exhibit problems feeding and chambering JHP ammo. Hollow point ammo is effectively illegal in the Czech Republic, so CZ, consequently, doesn't worry about it as much. Mine has fed everything I've loaded in, so no complaints there. CZ-USA is usually very willing to help, although some folks have had complaints. A good gunsmith can fix the JHP issue *IF* it pops up.

The price is better on a CZ75B (thats my model) and I got a great deal on mine. The only complaints I have are the crappy plastic factory grips. They just feel cheap. The grips from the P-01 would have been better. I've already replaced them with aftermarket pieces...wood ones from a local craftsman.
The other complaints I had were the mag brake (I straightened mine) and the fact that the mag well was too narrow at the base. The magazines were binding and not sliding out. I had to take a file to my brand new gun to make the mags fit and slip in and out. The pistol fired every time, but I didn't like having the remove metal from a new pistol. Oh well, the great prices have to come from somewhere and hand fitting and polishing is usually what gets sacrificed first.

Get the CZ, you'll be very happy. Oh, the money you save on the CZ is a good start towards saving for a nice FN marked Hi-Power. http://www.impactguns.com has them right now. FN markings (not Browning) always garner more questions and stares...and I like the attention. My FN Forty-Nine always gets me noticed. :D

Tough choice, if money is not primary concern I would go with Hi Power. If you are tight on the budget CZ-75 is the right choice.

I think my friend George nailed it, as you must include SIG's P226
and P228. Keep in mind that the P228 is listed as a "compact"; but
its a little larger than most others.

Major difference between the P226, and P228 besides the 226 being a bit
larger, is the fact that is also has the "Euro" grip angle, and the P228
has the "American" grip angle.

CZ 75B. My favorite wonder 9 bar none. YMMV and all that.
I've had experiance with the Beretta in 96 in 40 and with a HP Tactical. The CZ fits me better and points better than the others. Range rental/borrow a friend's is probably your best bet for narrowing the field.

Get the Hi Power. Wait...no let me re-phrase that...GET THE HI POWER!

Did I mention that you should GET THE HI POWER?

Oh well...do whatever you want...as long as you GET THE HI POWER.

Seriously, though...if my choice were limited to the three you named, I would opt for the HI POWER. It is by far, the pack leader. I have owned CZ'z, and I have owned many many other nines...the only one I carry other than a HI POWER is a Glock variant.

The HI POWER has been around for so long...literally, there will never be a mag or parts shortage. Even if by some flap of fate a mag ban gets on again...you will still be able to get std caps for the Browning.

It just melts into your hand. It is like the M&M's of autos.

I have an embarrassing number of HI POWERS in my safe. From run of the mill commercial HI POWERS to a Louis XVI I got from my Dad.

You will never go wrong with a HI POWER.

'Nuff said.

Have you actually shot these pistols? If not, go out and try them first before asking for the opinions of the masses...
That said, I have experience w/ the BHP & the Elite II. Of the 2, all things considered, I'd get the one I could get the better deal on! :D
