guys,

I'm considering a small carry pistol chambered in .45acp. Looking at the XD Sub Compact 3". I've shot the XD 45 full size and loved the gun, but would appreciate hearing from you guys that own the sub compact chambered in the same round. Haven't held one yet, will do so this weekend. I'm particularly interested in what looks like a trigger-based safety. What does the pull feel like with this type of set-up.
Always base my decision on ergonomics-ie. I don't care who makes the gun or how nice it looks. If it isn't comfortable to hold and shoot (accurately)-I'm not going to buy it.
Thanks for the help.
Gerry

Guess you are refering to the XDs?

I would go over the XD Forum, you will get a large number of actual owner operators there.

I'm sure a few will chime in here. Did you do a XDs search?

Check out Hickok .45 on YouTube also.

I only moderately cared for the ergonomics. Following a great deal of research, I purchased an XDm 3.8 instead. My first .45 and first Springfield.

I think there a nice gun tho some have reported problems mostly light primer strikes from not going into battery.

I fired about 100 round through one and thought the recoil wasn't bad even with top shelf .45 super ammo in it. It's very easy to conceal.

My only complaint was after we got done shooting it last time(it's my cousin gun) we went inside and the trigger safe just fell out, appears that it broke at some point then just fell out inside.

Let me bring some XD Talk to you as I am a member there also. There is no XD sc, the XD Service can be bought with a 4" barrel and compact grip frame. With the advances made in the XDm I would recommend you look at a XDm 3.8 Compact in .45 ACP. I have never heard of any issues like a broken trigger safety, but anyone that's interested I encourage you to come join us as www.xdtalk.com. These are the best polymer frame pistols extant, even to include $900+ H&K .45s, the Glocks are no contest for the XDm and if need be, I can state the reasons why. ;)

Too small. What is with this new trend of everyone buying micro pistols?

I think it's retarded. I would never carry anything other than top shelf, full sized service weapons.

I love my full size, high capacity guns!

Not everyone can dress around a full size service pistol for everyday concealed carry.

Who said I dress around my pistol?
I OC/CC and could care less who knows.
I also live in Vermont so that helps but micro pistols? Hell no.
I am not giving up mag capacity for the sake of hiding a micro gun.

I've had one for about 4 weeks and like it bunches. I usually carry either a 38 snubbie or a 380 in the heat of summer. Have shot about 400 rds thru it an like it. I have started to carry it more frequently than my snubbie since I'm old school and believe in big bullet - big hole....

From a supported psn it is extremely accurate from 5, 10, and 15 yds - I had all bullseye hits. I have fired factory loads from 185 to 230g ammo with no failures as too, 200 LFN and 230g RN lead and no problems. I seem to shoot better groups with the 200 LFN than 230s. Overall a very accurate and very manageable weapon to shoot.

The trigger pull is as my snubbie and has a crisp release that I like. It's taken me some time to get used to double taps as it is a 45 but I am comfortable to carry it as a Ccw. I love my 45s and carried it in my 24 yrs of military career so getting this weapon is what I was looking for. The price is such that I can afford XDS and Spfld Armory has a good reliability rating from people I know who shoot them here so I bought one. Bottom line is it I like it, it's accurate, concealable and I have confidence with the XDS as I do with my Sig 1911 Nightmare 45 I have. You will like it.

To me carrying a Ccw is a super responsibility requiring being versed in shooting the weapon as well as knowing the liabilities one steps in to if I have to use it. So being a 380, 38 special or now the 45 I carry I know I can hit what I shoot at. Sure having only 5 to 8 rds in my weapon is not much but I do carry a spare magazine. But this is not my primary weapon like in Nam but a back up in an extreme emergency situation. My one penny worth of opinions as to the XDS.
