Looking for a holster for a XD and wondering what is the difference between a XD 9 Sub Compact and a XDM 9 Sub Compact. I didn't realise there where two different guns but am finding both discriptions when looking for holsters. Heck now I have to go home and see which gun I even bought the wife...:banghead:

I believe the main difference is different external dimensions. Specifically, the XDM is slightly bigger width wise. I could have that flip-flopped but I know there is a dimensional difference because of an experience trying to order a custom holster. The manufacturer specifically told me that his XD holsters will not work for XDMs. Just make sure you order for you exact gun.

I did a quick search of Springfield's site before answering to make sure they hadn't slipped in a new model on me. There is no such thing (to my knowledge) as an XDm Sub Compact. There is an XDm 3.8 Compact but until you drop down to the XDs (single stack) which is only available in .45 at the moment, then the 3.8 Compact is as small as you go in the XDm line. So the XD Subcompact will be a bit smaller overall than the XDm 3.8 Compact. The best advice is to match the holster to the pistol.

However, my Galco Avenger holster box clearly says "Springfield XD9/40 4", Springfield XD 45 4", XDm 3.8". So you might be able to double dip with a leather holster like this one but will probably not be able to do the same with kydex.

Read the label and follow all manufacturer's instructions. Side effects include redness or chaffing, pistol wobble, inability to easily insert or extract pistol crisply, improper seating of pistol into holster or an inability to properly grasp pistol in a panic situation. Some of these symptoms may be severe or even life threatening. Stop using this product immediately and consult a qualified concealed carry expert is you expereince any of these side effects.

Good luck!

I've had three XD and one XDM (XD45c, XD40sc, XD9sc, and XDm40c). All fit the same aftermarket holsters; eg. Blackhawk Serpa and Avenger, Galco Matrix (belt and paddle), and G&G Goldline pancake.

really?

1 - shops don't have good holsters, it is logistically impractical for any shop to stock a holster for even the more common guns
2 - the XD[M] has interchangeable backstraps and a more aggressive texture, as well as being different dimensions, the XD is the older model (and the one I like better, lucky me) and has a smoother texture and a fixed grip size

Thanks everyone. I took a look and it is a XD 9 Sub Compact. and it looks like Tactikal is gunna hook me up shortly with a holster.

You must not have good stores where you are. I buy great holsters off the shelf all the time. There are Galco and Safariland full-line dealerships quite near me.

The best carry holsters tend to build to order like FIST, Comp-Tac, Crossbreed and Raven get great reviews, and there are some people on THR that make some great holsters as well.

For a gun like that one (whichever it turns out to be) I like the thin or ultra-thin Kydex like FIST makes, nice retention, don't take up a lot of real estate in your waistband, reholstering is easy and uncomplicated, the draw is typically pretty easy. I always found leather holsters to either be large out of waistband open-carry types or drag while drawing.

I like the pop and snap of thinner Kydex's draw. Gun won't go anywhere until you pull on it, and the holster isn't bringing your belt up your side with it.
