Hey, saw an Uberti 1866 Yellowboy 45colt 20" barrel at the local shop today and really liked the looks of it. Always wanted a lever action of some sort but never really researched them or seriously pursued one. Opinions on this piece and any lever action information or recommendations would be appreciated. It is for my collection, no specific purpose, I would just like to own one and this Uberti sure is pretty. Thanks:)

I have 4 ubertis.. 2 yellowboys, rifle and carbine (44-0 and 38sp) and 2 1873 (rifle and carbine, 44-40 and 357mag)..

my only concern would be to put the 45LC in a yellowboy design.. it was orignally built for the 44 rimfire... sure, metal is much better now then 130 years ago, but still..

I'd feel more confident with a 1873 in 45LC and a Yellowboy in .32, .38, or even 44-40..

But im sure if they make them, they must be safe anyway. Uberti a great looking rifles, and everytime I shoot them I travel 130 years back and find myself into the wild !

I haven't owned an 1866 replica but I do own a steel frame Henry and an 1873 carbine, both in .45 Colt caliber.
I did own a brass freame Henry in .45 Colt and sold it because too many folks told me that the frames would begin to batter out where they come in contact with the steel toggles with heavy use.

I have always felt that the brass frame replicas would be better and longer lasting rifles if they were to be reproduced in .44 Russian centerfire caliber which is a ballistically similar cartridge to the original .44 Henry rimfire.

I've got an unfired one in .44-40 that I'm going to sell. It's got the fire blued barrel. Make me a decent offer and it's yours. I've also got a Colt 1873 SAA in .44-40 that Cabelas graded at 95% plus. If you're getting a .44-40 rifle, may as well have an authentic pistol to go with it.

IMO, if you're going to fire some hot loads of .45LC you would do better with a 92 action like a PUMA.

yes, but a 1892 or Puma doesnt have the "charm" of a wild west era 1866 yellowboy !

If I were you i'd go for 44-40 Yellowboy offered up there, and take the SAA with it to !!!

its what i did.. 1866 Yellowboy rifle in 44-40 + Colt Frontier, same caliber !
