There are two Walther CCPs in my LGS and they both seem pretty nice (one in stainless the other all black). I've got three Walthers (P38/P1, P5 and PPX) and like 'em all. A bunch. (Okay, the P38 and P5 are both classics and what's not to like about them.? The PPX is, I think, the best value in a 9mm out there now.)

But on the Walther forum, I read nothing but disaster regarding this pistol, at least all of them before serial number 18,000 or so.

Wondering if anyone here has had any experience with them. I'd like to get one as they are a great size for my wife, the slide is rated as one of the easiest 9mm slides to rack, and I can negotiate on the price as this is my regular store. But because the Walther board reviews are so alarming, I've said "No" so far. Any opinions? (And yes, I know going with my gut is the right thing to do...but I'd like some other perspectives if there are any out there.)

CCP is a great concept but does not seem to be executed so well. Some claim they never have a problem with their's but too many still do even with late serial numbers. Personally I would not buy if it is going to be used for self defense.

The Walther PPS however is a great pistol and the new PPS M2 is an update of the original PPS with supposedly better grip and elimination of back strap safety. I own the original PPS and love it. You might want to check out the Walther PPS instead. The Walther PPS is a fairly soft shooter for its size.

As far as racking slide, if you have not done so already, have your wife do such by gripping the slide with one hand and then using the pistol grip to push the frame forward with the other hand. See link below with video on how to do such. Of course having the pistol properly lubed will help also. I coat the entire length of each slide rail, where it rides on the frame metal rails/tabs, with lube on my pistols.

I was asking myself the same thing not too long ago. There are too many negative reviews already to trust it IMO. It's too bad because I really like the look and feel of them.

More Umarex junk.

If you want a real Walther single-stack 9mm pistol, get the vastly superior PPS.

Ditto

I held one and the darn thing felt as if it were molded to exactly fit my hand. Great ergos. The negative reviews and that fact that it's Umarex and not a "real" Walther make me suspicious though. Wish I could shoot one and see how it does...

Unfortunately I would skip the CCP for carry, I just would not be able to trust it. And I am a very big believer in the Walther line of pistols, at least the P99, PPQ, PPX, and PPS.
It might be fine for range/plinking, but not for any life dependancy.

It's not made in the plant that makes the high end Walther pistols.....it's a Umarex with "Walther stamped on the side.

Like many others have said, go with the PPS. It's been my carry option for over 6 years. Recoil is so gentle I can shoot it literally all day at the range and have zero hand or wrist fatigue.
