Hello,

I was told recently sad tales of my favored .22LR hunting ammo, Winchester Xpert bulk from Walmart (the only stuff I will buy from that store is ammo...) I was told of loose bullets, failures to fire, and inconsistent velocities.

I've encountered the loose bullets, but that's not a problem for me. And so far, all but one have been extremely consistent, allowing a 50 yard target looking like this:

50yds, three shots...

... and a 100 yard target that has a group which can be covered by a quarter. I'd probably do better at this range with a higher powered 'scope.

Only one round from the 200-250rnds I've fired thus far has been in any way underpowered, and I've had zero failures to fire.

I hope I did not just get a lucky box.

What are your experiences with this round?

I've had pretty good luck with Remington bulk ammo -- although it seems that some boxes are better than others. Federal works well for me, too. So does the Winchester.

It so happens that, where I was buying ammo, the Federal stuff was cheaper. Since it worked fine, I bought it.

Bottom line? If it works for you, in your guns, buy it!

I've never had any luck with it or Rem's bulk. Dirty and inconsistent. Fed's been much better.
But if the pic is representative of your results don't argue with success!:)

My Browning Buckmark Bullseye eats them like candy. Due to the Xpert's large hollowpoint cavity, I use them for pest control. So the bullets wiggle a bit. Oh, well. It's most certainly not CCI Green Tag.

I run them in my M-16 with the Ciener .22 conversion kit. Of all the different ammo I have tried the Xpert runs the best.

There is an occasinal FTF, maybe 1 out every 250. When that happens I pulled the bullet and every time it is a lack of priming compound in the rim. But for the money I can't argue. And if you wanna talk about fun per dollar, nothing beats a full auto .22!

I too find it pretty accurate to boot. Forget the tales of woe people are telling you, if it works then shoot it!

Run back to your walmart with the lot number from the box and buy as much as you can afford. Bulk ammo varies from lot to lot just as all other ammo does.

I have some guns that eat the stuff with a smile and group well, but others that group terrible with it. I have also had a few misfeeds with it that I attributed to loose bullets that cocked sideways upon cycling. I have also have maybe 8 misfires out of probably 4,000rds of it. On the whole, I'm pleased with it at the price.

I will say however, those bulk-pack Wildcats shoot terrible in all my guns except one. In my Nylon 66, they went from 1.75" groups at 50yds to like 3 inch groups.
