I'm short on cash to prepare for the coming of "The One".

The situation:
I own two pistols
- XD 45 4" dual tone
- Beretta 92FS Inox (all metal) w/ factory 22 LR kit and all of the parts from a stripped police issue 92fs

I love shooting the XD, but I'm very concerned about springfield's resistance to sell spare parts as well as the long term stability of the polymer frame. I also understand that the magazine lips on my XD mags may be vulnerable to dropping.

Seems to me that the next two months might be the best time to unload a pistol (panic buying etc), and I question the wisdom of keeping a pistol I cannot repair myself. (I have broken down my beretta to bare slide and frame and reassembled twice)

Should I cash in the XD to get more parts for my EBR and Beretta as well as bullet casting tools? (I already have reloading gear)

why are people still talking about the inability to get factory parts for the sa xd. they can be found at www.pistolgear.com so so much for that argument. as faras the polymer frame lasting the xd has a lifetime warranty so that should be a non issue for you. as well there are plenty of polymer guns that have been running and running for years with no issues.

Possum,
You're assuming that SA is still in business when/if the frame gets damaged.

Thanks for the link.

There are apparantly "restricted parts" that SA wont sell, I wonder why.

Personally I'd keep the Beretta. It's been around awhile longer than the XD, so I'd think if the issue of parts came up, they would be easier to find.

If you’re strapped for cash the factory 22 LR kit makes the 92 the obvious choice.

If you can't legally carry (or if you can and you have other pistols designated for this role), sell off the XD.

what makes you think that they won't be in business anymore? this isn't like a lifetime warranty on a "seen it on tv" gizmo, this is sa we are talking about here.

the days of people worrying about polymer frames cracking from regular use are gone.

if you can wear out a polymer gun or frame, from regular use then i am impressed, and if you put enough rounds through a gun to "wear" it out and the polymer frame then i am sure that you have the money to replace it.

most people that own guns don't even shoot enough rounds through a gun to get it properly "broke in" much less actually broke.

i can tell you this, a glock 19 can go 1000rd in less than 15 minutes, and the frame will show series signs of warpage/ sagage but after it cools will be 100% back to normal agian, and never loosing it's reliability.

I'm concerned with the potential for firearms manufacturers being driven out of the country or out of business altogether by lawsuits in the near future. Does my lifetime warrenty also cover me firing my reloads? nope.

Keep what you're the most accurate with.

Sell the other and purchase more magazines and ammunition.

I haven't heard of any parts issues from my gunsmith.

i have never and i have never heard of anyone being asked what kinda ammo they have shot in a gun when calling a compaines cs or sending a gun back for warranty work.

Justanotherplinker,
i don't know who you are, or what you want me to say, and why you are acting the way you are, nothing i write seems to get the thread any farther, but this will be my last reply to this particular thread.

Since you apparently don't own a .22, and the Beretta has the .22 conversion, this is a no-brainer.
If you are strapped for cash, .22LR ammo is the best deal around, and will remain so for the forseeable future. Buy a bunch of it :)
And then buy a single stage press, some dies for 9mm, and as many components as you can afford.

possum, ur wasting your time on this fella. He is all over the map with what if's. Lifetime has many paths. If they go out of business, the lifetime is over, if they change models completly, more than likely the life time is over. if they are bought out, the lifetime "could" be
over. I sold guns for 40 years and I can't remember ever having a person bring in a gun that was "shot" out. worn out or whatever. Some people want to argue for arguing sake..

Well I don't have an XP, but I have 3 Beretta 92's,,,if it's good enough for our militarty, it's good enough for me.Got enough mags for all 3, and enough spare parts for one.

Well thanks for the advice all, I believe I will be keeping the 92 and 22lr kit and depending on where we're all at in november/december I may part with the xd as well. 10k 9mm out the 92 over that past 7 years, I like to think I'm pretty accurate with it by now.

FWIW I really like the XD, the whole restricted parts bit is irritating as I don't want to be out of a pistol after sending it off for a factory repair I could accomplish myself. Life IS alot of what ifs, you just gotta cover your ass in as many ways as possible.

JustAnotherPlinker, if you are worried about companies going away and parts becoming hard to get the Beretta will be the best option. There will be plenty of military and police "spare" parts available, even if they are difficult to find. Plus, you already figured out how to work on it.

Why not keep both? To play your what if game....what if one gun breaks and you have sold the other? That rear end just got uncovered. :D

You're worried about lifetime warranties and whether Spingfield Arms will survive Obama when Ford, General Motors and Chrysler have a good chance of going belly up? :what: I do agree that you have to cya in every way possible but some things just happen and no amount of worrying or handwringing is going to make any difference. The one thing we all can do is show up at the polls next month and vote for "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

God bless America!
