What kind of accuracy are you getting out of your XD9?

By far the most impressive thing about my new XD-9 Bi-tone is how well it shoots. It is dead on and if I do my part, it will tear the center out of a target. It is box stock and still getting worn in but so far, I am impressed. I shoot it better than most guns I have tried. What kind of accuracy are you guys getting? Is this common or did I luck out and get a shooter? I hear good things about the accuracy but I would like to hear from people who shot other guns as well for a comparison.

I shoot it better than my Berettas which is a little embarrasing but oh well. I shoot it better than most of the 1911s I have own with one high dollar Colt Chip McCormick racer being the exception. I shoot it better than any S&W auto or Ruger auto. I shoot it better than nearly every gun I have tried with a few exceptions and I have owned and shot a lot of pistols. There are maybe 3-4 autos in my life that shot better for my offhand than the XD.

Revolvers don't count because a good S&W .38 or .357 will drop bullets into the X-ring all day long! But in autos, the XD holds a pretty high place on my list of most favored pistols. I am not a fan of plastic guns but this one is proving itself to me. Will I ever retire my 100% reliable Beretta 92FS as a home defense gun? Probably not, it is just too reliable to retire. I will never carry the beretta now that the XD is such a good package though.

Nope not just you, most of them seem to shoot really well. Some people shoot really poorly with them because they are used to other guns but I think the XD points very naturally and I can shoot it pretty well.

Mine is very accurate too. It is only a shade behind my 1911 and I attribute that to the 1" shorter barrrel. It is plenty accurate enough for anything short of bullseye competition. Just as important to me, it has been totally reliable and I love the ergonomics.

and if it happens that you still want more accuracy out of a XD, the SA custom shop can refit your barrel for match grade accuracy for $90.

If it ain't broke... :D

I really think that would be a waste of money because I think the accuracy is there, it would be on me to make it more accurate. The best accuracy mods for this gun would be trigger and sight improvments. With a really good trigger, I bet I could hold my own even in the local Bulleye matches. We mostly shoot stock guns and we have iron sight and red dot leagues. I did pretty well with a stock S&W 19-5 with 6" bbl, TH, TT, and my handloads (148gr HBWC).

I think with a good trigger and match sights and ammo it really likes, it could do bullseye without being embarassed.

My 40-Service was unbelievable to me. The first mag I shot out of it was like a 1-holer. It shoots as well as my 1911's and the trigger is consistant. Shoots a lot like my Glocks (trigger take up) only more accurate. Nice gun.

I'm very pleased with the accuracy of my 3 .40 caliber XDs. I shoot the sub compact and service model more than the tactical, but the accuracy is great in all three. They are very trouble free as well. The 1911s don't get out as much as they used to.

My best group at 15 yards is 2",i
used black hills 115gr +P's which
have speer gold dot bullets.This
was slow fire with the slack in
the trigger taken up.Any good
practice ammo groups around 3"
using a normal trigger pull.I'am
real happy with this one.i had one
a while back that i bought used
and it would not do better than
4-6" at 15 yards.

I just got back from the range with my bi-tone XD9, put about 300 rounds thru it without a single hiccup and excellent accuracy. I'm wore out; I need a shower and a nap. I feel so relaxed after a full day of shooting.

Laugh or flame me but this is the truth---my SA XD SC9 outshoots my Glock 34 at 10 and 25 yds. Maybe it's just me and my grip/stance but the SC9 outshoots my G34 everytime. My bi-tone service XD 9 does the same thing. Kind of pisses me off too because of all the extra money that is in my G34. :cuss:

Other than the blue XD finish sucks, is there anything people don't like about the XD?

I wonder why, if it's so great, didn't it catch on back when it was the HS2000? Poor marketing and low sales numbers?

I think it's a combination of several things that kept the 2000 from being popular. Poor marketing. Croatia?!?!??! Lack of factory 15-rounders.

Same reason Steyrs have not caught on as much as Glocks or even the XD, for that matter. A good design does not guarantee success. Lets face it, decent firearm designs do not vary by very much. Marketing plays a huge role in this industry.

As far as accuracy goes, I am pleased with my XD9 tactical, but I cannot get past 2-3 rounds, sometimes 5-8, without a jam of some kind. I have even had the slide NOT move when hired. It still showed loaded chamber due to the case still inside the chamber. I am shooting Remington UMC 115 FMJ. Has anyone else had this problem? It shot 5 rounds of Winchester 127 SXT +p+ without any problems. What should I do? The gun is good and clean. I have less than 100 rounds through it yet.

Thanks

Gene,
Try a box of Blasers or S&B. If the same thing happens, ship it back to Springfield. They will pick up the cost. Just call their service dept. If you are a new shooter, let someone else shoot it. Good luck.

Every XD series pistol I've shot from the XD9-XD40 has been accurate. I even watched Skunkabilly clean the clock of another THR member who had a full house 1911 with a Subcompact XD9. ;) I would say the XDs are more accurate than most shooters.

I took mine to the range the other day and had trouble keeping more than 35% to 40% of my shots on a 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper. Only about 25% were in the 8-inch circle. Of course, this could have been a result of shooting it on the rifle range at 100 yards. :neener:

Seriously, when shooting at 15 yards of less, blowing the center of the target out with one magazine is a fairly standard result.

I like mine... However, I think my CZ-75 is a bit more accurate. I find that I shoot really high with the XD-9. I have to change my hold a bit between the two pistols to get the pistol shoot to a similar point of aim at the same distance.
