Hello,
I am a new member here and just wanted to say hello. I collect World War 2 guns mostly.

Now, my questions........

I recently got a repro mount and original scope (1941 date) for my Svt-40 (1941 Tula, no import marks, non match parts and bolt in the white). The receiver is grooved but not cut (notched) on the back to hold the cross lock pin on the mount. I want to notch the receiver but have a few questions....

Does anyone have an original notched receiver or pics of one?

Has anyone notched their receiver, either milled or filed?

The only picture I have seen of the "scope notch" is in Hitlers Garands....any other info out there on SVT-40's (perhaps a book?)?

Any and all replies will be very helpful, Thanks

Thanks for the fast reply. I have seen this site before and it is very helpful but can't seem to locate pictures of a dedicated SVT-40 sniper (one that left the factory with the notch filed or milled into the receiver).
I guess I will keep searching.

SVT SCOPE MOUNT

i can take some pics --do you still need them-email you the pics or attach to
this forum ???

That's because that is invariably what happens. Besides, unless it has the rails and a notch, the rifle was tested and found insufficiently accurate for sniper duty and scoping. Please do not modify your rifle.

Thanks to all who replied. Those pictures were very helpful but also raise more questions. In the pictures the notch has a rounded bottom. Perhaps the notch was cut on a milling machine or it was was filed with a round file? In the book "Hitlers Garands" { W. Darrin Weaver, Collecter Grade Publications,2001, page 56} there is a picture of the SNT40 sniper rifle receiver, and the notch is square cut and flat bottomed. Which is correct?

Thanks again for all your time and I look forward to any and all replies!
