So I’ve really never end used a scope but want one to shoot out to 200 yards with 22lr. My budget is under $500. I’ve read a lot of posts and am confused. I am planning to bench shooting. Any help would be appreciated.

Id take a hard look at the Arken EP5 or Sh4J and the Bushnell MatchPro......im forgetting one i want to recommend.....

Theres also the Talos and Argos BTRs from Athlon.
Conquer 3s from Riton
Sightron S-tacs
Meopta Optika 5 & sometimes can 6 in that price range.

Lotsa other good options

If you don't mind scopes made in China then I will recommend the Arken SH-4J 6-24 scope and their 34mm Combo Pack. The combo pack has everything you will need to mount the scope including your choice of 0 MOA or 20 MOA mount, flip up caps, throw lever and bubble lever. The SH-4J and combo pack will put you right around $500 after sales tax. I paid $508 for the SH-4J and combo pack a few weeks ago, that price included sales tax.

No matter what scope you go with, you will want a mount with at least 20 MOA for shooting 22LR at longer distances.

I think i just started sooner lol.

I remembered! Ive seen deals for the Athlon Ares BTR and Vortex Viper PST gen2s just under 600.

Some will even use a 20 to 30 MOA mount AND rings with built in cant for shooting past 200-250 yards. Some will depend on the scope and how much elevation adjustments they have. A 20 MOA mount is a minimum that most will suggest for shooting 22lr out to 200-250 yards.

For a point of reference I've got a B14R, with 30MOA rail and PST2 5-25X50 I easily get to 307yds (some of my swingers from my bench) using 13.3 Mils and standard velocity ammo. I use 6.7 to get to 208yds.

IAW Strelok Pro, the 30MOA base gives me out to 256yds with the reticle.

Same here, although I took the Gen II off to try another scope for the match where we shot at 330 yards. I had to dial all I had plus hold .5 mil, but I got there.

Definitely get at least a 20 MOA rail, and a 30 MOA rail won’t hurt you up close, so……..my two have 30 MOA rails.

IF you're wanting to Benchrest and shoot at a set distant ranged / target. Stay with a 2nd. Focal plane scope. IF you want to do a lot of positional changes a long with the unknown target dist. You will need FFP scope. A lot of traditional BR shooters that get into PRS/NRL - NRL22, prs precision rimfire have issues getting their heads around FFP scopes. It feels all "WRONG" Give yourself time to adjust. FFP takes a lot of working with up front. But once you start using the math and turrets it gets a lot easier. Again if your just shooting to a static designated target for your shooting then STAY with 2nd focal plane target scopes.

I've got to jump on the Arken bandwagon. For under $500, there's nothing that can touch it. It will beat out anything that Vortex has for $100-$200 more in terms of the glass and turrets.

I would also suggest just going with the EP5. The glass is noticeably better than that of the SH line.

Arken is offering 25% off of retail pricing. I ordered my EP5 from MK Machining with a throw lever and bubble level and got it for under $370, shipped.

It's no Burris XTR III or Vortex Razor, but I have no problem tracking hits on steel out to 300. Tracking misses depends on how dry the ground is and what the light is like.

The new SH-4J 6-24 scope has Japanese glass just like the EP line does and is just as clear. The SH-4 costs $300 and the SH-4J costs $400. The SH-4J is definitely worth the extra $100 over the SH-4.

while that is not as good as their older discount if you donated to the Navy Seal Foundation, 25% off is still a good discount. You can buy the SH-4J and the 34mm Combo pack for right around $500. The final cost will depend on your state collecting sales tax on internet orders and on sales tax rates.

I have the Match Pro 6-24 and I love it. The only thing it does not have is zero stop, and if I'm not mistaken the newer 5-30 ones do, but they are over $500 The older 6-24 can be found mid $300, but hard to beat the Arken for the price with all the features you get.

Edit - I echo the recommendation on the 20-30MOA rail. I am using a 30 MOA.

Thank you for all the responses. I went with the EP5 from MK Machining. Thanks for sharing their pricing.
Good deal. As far as Arkens go, it's the best way to go. I thought the EP5 looked a bit better, a tad more elevation and 10 mils/25 min per rev.
