I use this rifle for big game hunting here in North Carolina, however I look forward to going on a hunt out west with it in the future. What is a good scope to put on it so I can shoot long at a long, and close distance? I was considering something with a BDC reticle. What is BDC reticle, and how does it work? Are what is your opinion's on what I should put on it?

I want to be able to shoot well over 200 yards if need be!

Price range matters but really just want some opinion's

It has a old taco 52mm scope on it now

Perhaps the real question is whether you can shoot accurately beyond 200 yds?

There are many kinds of BDC/ranging schemes out in the world. If you know what you're hunting for/looking at you can buy a mildot scope and learn how to use it to judge range. Or you can buy one of the many scopes from the major brands that have built in BDC reticules. Some of the BDC reticules are general aim points and some can be calibrated based on your caliber/setup.

Leupold has a new system that you can get with custom calibrated range dials that are made for your specific setup, if you're willing to spend the money. http://www.leupold.com/VX-3CDS Of course, that basically locks you into a particular cartridge.

No scope or BDC scheme will make the shot for you; you still need to practice...
