Ok, am in the process of finding a SU16B in PRC, and am trying to mate it with the optimum optic.

I want fast, short range capable, but also somthing that i can confidently reach out to 200-250 yards.

I have a Leupold Gilmore red dot that is great for hand guns, but the parallax seems a bit much for longer range.

To rid myself of parallax... I am looking at the Bushnell holosight (AA model), Vs. the EOTech 552.A65. The EOTech looks like its really worth the extra yen, but what irks me is that it weights 11.5oz to the bushnell's 8.8. This may not be a big deal, but on the superlight weight su16 it may throw off the rifles feel... any opinions?

Other than that, id love the Trijicon TAO1nsn, but cannot justify the $900 ontop of the $500 rifle- though it seems like a good match.

Anyone have both or get to play with all, can you give some advice of the quality comparo;s. Speed of acquisition with the Trijicon, and distance shooting with the hud type (100, 200yd). Thanks.

AR15.com has a number of threads that compare various combat optics; they can be worth reading. Most of those guys seem to like ACOGs like the TA01NSN, but there are also a lot of people that prefer the lower cost units like Aimpoint and Eotech.

As for the weight issue, if you mount the optic over the center of mass of the weapon it will still handle well. For example, mounting an optic right over the mag well of an AR works very well and the overall moment of inertia of the weapon seems unchanged.

consider putting a Hakko on top. Cheap but good red dot on a cheap but good rifle. sounds like a match to me.

I'd look into the tube type dot sight instead of the heads up type. I tried both on my Kel Tec and the heads up type sits up to high to shoulder and shoot naturally with. The tube type, mounted low will let you get a cheek weld that is pretty much the same as the open sights and makes it much easier to shoot with. After fooling around with mine, and trying both dot sights and scopes, I liked the factory peep sights the best, followed by a little Beeman SS3 1.5x4 scope. The dots were ok up close, but I got better results with the scope as the range increased. On its lowest setting, the scope was almost as fast as the dot to shoot with.

EOTech 552.A65 should be on its way- the 1moa dot and the batt life is just awsome
thanks all for the advice.

on that trij model (nsn), i am not impressed when the BAC is not used (the filament to collect light). I want my sight to be consistent all the time, not conventional crosshairs in the sun and red crosshairs in dark... I like the TA31F best for the trijicon line, the chevron for gaging distance is awsome.

I have had so many crappy red dots in my life, i am looking foward to one that claims zero parralax- i am hopefull it is true...
