Well I am well on my way to building our space gun. I have just mounted a KOBRA holosight on the USC and I love it. Haven't had a chance to sight in but just playing with it I am very impressed. Too high to co-witness but is very easy to release and take off if a need to switch over to irons is necessary.
I like Russian stuff/AKs/magazines etc. Mostly because I have found that they tend to overengineer the hell out of their stuff, albeit at the cost of weight and user friendliness which are ok trade offs for me. The KOBRA is heavy for a sight of this kind but feels like you could run a tank over it. The controls are very easy to operate and the multiple reticals are great. It is my first foray into Russian optics besides PSO scopes, which I also like very much as they are extremely clear optics for the money.
I had contempated putting a nice Aimpoint on the USC but decided I just didn't want to spend the money on what amounts to my toy space gun. I did however want something tough and military tested more than a civillian type sight like the Bushnell copy of the Eotech. The KOBRA fit this niche nicely.
I got the one with the weaver/picatinny base and also the AK rail so I can try it out on a variety of firearms but it was bought for the USC.
My next Russian Optic will be a PK-01V red dot.
Next on the USC space gun is a foward flashlight of some kind. No $400 Bruggers or Surefires, probably just a M3 or cheap little Glocklight copy of the M3. Sheslinger has drawn the line on a forearm grip though that stays off......................................for now.
Normally I am not a gadget on guns guy. Most of my firearms are iron sights only affairs with very few add ons. I do like bi-pods on my scoped guns but other than that most of my pieces are pretty basic. Heck I actually own a BONE STOCK RUGER 10/22 and 2 BONE STOCK AR15s with non removeable A2 handles up top. I just figured I would make the USC my fun/add 20 lbs of crap space tactical toy.
Anyway bottom line is the KOBRA is much more robust then I thought it would be. Pictures do not do the KOBRA justice as to how tough it feels.
