I'm looking at getting a Sightron SII for my 30-.06 I found the 3-9x42 at Manventureoutpost for $197 ($210.66 including shipping) Then I found that Sightron has a rebate going now....$50 on this scope. So the total cost would be about $160. Any reason NOT to go with this one? I hear all good about Sightron....

What do you guys think?

Not trying to be a snob, but you would be better off saving your money for a good scope.I have a Leupold 3x9x40 and i thought that was great, until i got a Swarovski.I didnt know what I was missing.

georgeduz, I know what you mean. The Swaros are nice, but I settled on a Nightforce. I wanted something compact and the NXS fit the bill for me. I've really gotten spoiled.

I'm getting ready to send my Nightforce in for a reticle transplant and Zero Stop upgrade and needed a scope to get me through the five week wait. I decided to try a Super Sniper 10X42M. It's been a while since I tried one and am hearing good things about them these days. I was also considering a Vortex. I actually got to shoot a Vortex Viper 6.5-22X (I believe). It was surprisingly clear for what it is. I went with the SS 10X (I do hate the funky name) for a few reasons. The first is that I hadn't tried one. The second is that it has more range of adjustment and lastly, it has an etched reticle, rather than wire. We'll see how it does. For what it's worth, the fixed 10X with rear parallax adjustment goes for $300.

The Monarch is a step up from the SII. It is also a step up in price. If it is worth it is a question only you can answer. I think it depends. The glass is better, not worlds better, but better. The Monarchs are built well too. If this were to go on a rifle I was taking on a paid hunt I would take the Monarch of the 3. If you weren't paying to go on the hunt I think I would take the SII. Sightron makes good scopes, especially for the money. I'm not sure I feel as confident in the build quality of the SII as the Monarch but for anything short of the hunt of a lifetime I would take the SII. The vortex is decent. I don't own one now but I do use a friends a bit. I'm not sure where you are finding the Viper for $250. They typically run in the $400+ range for something 3-9x or above. At $250 you are getting a pretty good deal there too. All three of the scopes should make you happy. Pick the one you like best and be done. I can't really say much negative about any of them.

Nikon Monarch 4-16x42 at Amazon right now for $357, free shipping. I put one on my RRA Varmiter 6 months ago and couldn't be happier. Very accurate adjustments, very clear glass.
