I’m fairly certain a lawyer can aid the recipient of a firearms legacy in preparing an affidavit swearing to the inheritance while carefully listing the firearms inherited (with serial numbers and perhaps a photo or two).
Of course most wouldn’t go to the trouble unless they’re valuable and it would be more for insurance purposes than to be able to assert a claim of ownership down the line. As always, talk to your lawyer for his (or her) advice.
