Has anyone had any success with ordering ammo online to be delivered to SUBURBAN Cook, County (NOT in Chicago)? If so, who did you use?

Cook County

:scrutiny:

It's been many years now since you could buy ammo mail order and have it delivered to your house. I believe the same restriction applies to DuPage County as well.

There may be some companies that would be WILLING to ship you ammo, but any package marked as containing ammo, as required by federal law, would probably get stopped at the main post office hub in Chicago.

Most mail order companies state quite clearly that they will not ship restricted items to New York, Cook County, etc.

If there were any of us that knew of a way of getting around this stupid law, we would be smart to keep it to ourselves.

Actually it would get stopped a lot sooner than that - you cannot ship ammo by USPS.

And, yes, some will still ship to suburban Cook ... I've used Natchez, AmmunitionToGo and I think Graf's in the last couple of years...also Powder Valley for powder and primers.

Some may require your FOID or DL on file and most will ship only to the address on the FOID.

MOST dealers just don't want the 'Cook Co.' hastle and refuse to ship there. Some will.

Call and ask the dealer---EVEN IF THE CATALOG SAYS 'NO' to Cook.

UPS will almost ship anything anywhere--they aren't the 'big' issue. The catalog dealers got nervous because of threats from Mayor goof ball over civil litigation, etc.

That's why I would not encourage anyone NOT to advertise the kind-hearted dealers that would rather give you what you want than kow-tow to Dictator Daley.

Related story: I collect antique switchblades. I do not carry them, stab people with them, or sell them to street punks. But the auction web site for switchblades, which was a great source for rare antique knives, had several of its sellers stung a few years back by Illinois Senator Dick Durbin and the FBI.

They set up a sting where agents, posing as buyers, procured switchblades from out-of-state sellers. The sellers were then arrested and two of them were fined $10,000 each. It's illegal to own a switchblade in Illinois, or to sell to an Illinois resident, or to transport one across Illinois state lines.

Now all the auctions have "Will not ship to Illinois" stated at the bottom by the sellers.

Seems Durbin was afraid of an imminent crime wave from drive-by switchblade stabbers.

If I find a mail-order company that will ship me ammo, I'm not going to advertise it here or on any other forum. Don't want to get myself or anyone mired in legal manure.

Threre's only one that has shipped to my address, and I live in Chicago. They don't really have any cheap practice ammo or anything. They mostly sell self defense ammo like Winchester Ranger, Speer Gold Dots, Golden Saber, etc. They do carry practice ammo, but they are not cheaper then wal-mart so I don't bother.

I also get my .22 ammo from wal-mart. i think its a cheap place to get ammo from known manufacturers as opposed to some shops that would sell imports of questionable quality.

Yes, shipping to Cook County is fine and legal. Here's examples who will do it:

Outdoor Marksman
Midway USA
Streichers
Wideners
AIM Surplus
Ammoman

Most will want FOID, DL, or a combination thereof on file. If you're not at home during the usual delivery time, be familiar with where your UPS hub is. Most will ship signature required.
