According to DuPont, Tyvek can be adhered to itself and other surfaces using a variety of adhesives. Apparently the best will be a "Solvent-based single-component polyurethane adhesive". Now what constitutes that I cannot say, but some are saying Gorilla Glue meets the criteria as an adhesive. If this is the case and it can be adhered to itself and other surfaces with a decent amount of strength, it brings the option of layering, which might increase strength without increasing weight too quickly, given how lightweight Tyvek is.

Why not take a page out of the bulletproof window playbook and put some sort of high-strength film between the layers? Also, if you're going to use bed-liner, buy it by the gallon - IIRC, it's about $35 at an auto parts store. Might also embed some fiberglass (chopped or stranded) while you're at it to strengthen it...

Re duct tape....

...and also with the adhesive weakening and melting in high heat...

....The only problem I see with it is the adhesive dries out over time....

So what? As long as it doesn't move, its strength is still there, no?

You ever mess around with phenolic laminates?

Or maybe a couple strips of steel belted tire. Post apocalyptic styling is a decided bonus.

Since I know nothing about it, I'll add my $.02.
I like Mr. Jenkins' idea of flexible membrane, How about Kevlar? Easily available from Jamestown Supply, in RI.
And for glue I would try 5200, same source
Good luck
