I think everyone has probably seen this. This is the guys that run Accuratereloading.com They've got a whole gob of videos of guys shooting the .577 and several other guns as well I believe.

Upon Pizarro's arrival in the new word, he sought out the native South Americans. They were found to be huddled in their dwellings watching that video, already well-known throughout the land.

I've never seen that video either.

That is one gun that I can honestly say I have no interest in ever shooting.

My hand, arm and shoulder are important to me.

Four observations:

1. Pretty sure a .50BMG is around 14,000 pounds of energy.
2. Light weight makes the felt recoil much worse.
3. Nobody in the video takes a good stance for offhand shooting, they don't lean into it. I'd bet at least one guy did it right and they cut him out.
4. If we drop those in the middle east, terrorists will be afraid to shoot us. I say we go for it.

EDIT: Here's that guy http://youtube.com/watch?v=CQ0qwhOQWzE&mode=related&search=

Isn't the Tyrannosaur a wild cat built on the BMG case? One of them big monster cartridges is. There is a longer video that ends with a guy shooting a .500 NE I believe, handles it like a pro. You think these things are bad? Try a 4 Bore pushing a 1,926 grain slug at just under 2000 fps. Never shot one, but I've seen one up close and that was enough.

That 700 Nitro didn't look that bad. I would try one of them if I ever got the chance. I also liked the double rifle they showed in the 700 video and the .22 hornet rifle they showed in the end.

I have to agree with briancraig.... the 700 Nitro looked a lot less punishing. I guess they're shooting it out of an appropriate rifle, with some weight to it.

Funny thing, my Dad's side of the family are English via Burma and India and my grandmother used to tell me about the howdah pistol my great-grandfather kept for burglars...... I think from what she told me (it was used by his father for tiger hunting as a last-ditch gun) and shot the same cartridge as his tiger rifle.

Yep, all good solid Raj types on Dad's side of the family :)

Aye, it didn't look quite as harsh. But look at the people who were shooting. The guys shooting the .577 weren't exactly seasoned magnum shooters were they? Someone familiar with large amounts of recoil can make anything look easy. I once watched a man shoot a .460 Weatherby Magnum about the same way I shoot a .30-30.
