AK fire selector, why hasn't anyone else done this?

I think I am going to attempt to modify one.

You don't have to:

I have 2, they work great.

Or, you can do about ten minute's worth of work with a Dremel on your preexisting one.

That won't give you the cool fingertab at the bottom. That's 95% of the reason I have them.

Kreb's Custom. Same approach with slot & tab, slightly different execution.

I love this comment on the linked Youtube page:
were have you been all my life babie i love ak 47 and tommy guns bit the ones with the barrel ammo but my best weapon ever is an ak47 with a barrel loader a questions tho those guns exists? i mean the ak 47 with the 300 shooting bb barrel instead of that loader
I think thats like a shoulder thing that goes up.

Take a look at that tab and think about how your hands will look when you run them across the sharp edges while just generally handling the gun.

If you spend a little time with your AK, you'll soon find that most all the so called up grades, like the modified selectors and mag releases are unnecessary, and often, more a source of problems.

You can easily manipulate both the selector and mag release with your hand on the grip, and your hands dont have to be large to do it.

If you absolutely have to have one, check out Kreb's version. At least there are no sharp edges to tear up your hands or hang up on your gear.

Well, the Finns use both the fingertab on the safety AND have an extended mag release on their Valmet AKs, so they can't be all bad.

Can someone explain to me what that lever does? Does it just change the first click down to semi, and second to auto instead? First time I shot an AK I found it funny that the first click was auto instead of semi.

The fingertab at the bottom means that you can use only your index finger to flip the safety off. The notch at the top means that you can slip the charging handle in there and hold the bolt back.

There's a good reason for that. Imagine you're a soldier in combat. You're scared. Fine motor skills are lessened. You mash the safety off. Because full auto is first, you're likely to push the selector all the way down to semi. By doing so, you're less likely to burn up all of your ammo. It makes putting the gun on happy fun mode a more deliberate act.

Here's my method for keepping my finger on the trigger and manipulating the safety:

1) Keep index finger on trigger

2) Stick middle finger up like you're flipping the bird

3) Use middle finger to manipulate safety

The Valmet's are a quality rifle. The couple I've shot didnt have the tab on the selector (they did have a lever on the off side of the rifle though), and they dont use a cheap "batwing" releases made of cheap (and most of the time, sharp) sheet metal.

I'm not saying the extensions are a bad thing, especially if they are properly designed, its just that most of what you see in the aftermarket stuff, isnt. If it was, it wouldnt be necessary, as they would already be on the gun.

Like I said before, with a little practice, the AK's "so called" shortcomings go away. You just have to invest a little time. Once you understand them, you can pick up any of them and make them work without thought or trouble.

Alas, the Blackjack site shows "sold out" on that item.

Also, it says "da switch" doesn't work on the Yugo AK.

So does anybody know if one of those Krebs versions will work on a Yugo AK?

Who really likes that manual bolt-hold-open feature yet doesn't want to start cutting on his rifle.
