I really like my Blackhawks as outdoor guns, very strong, very accurate. Much has been said for SA triggers on the DA guns, but I find the Blackhawks quite good for hunting or general outdoor use. Then there are the big cannons like the Freedom Arms, but lately, S&W, Ruger, and Taurus have been coming out with some cannons in DA.
I do have several revolvers I like to carry afield, but they're not the big hunting cannons. One's a .357 service sized 4" DA Taurus M66, then I have a couple of little J frame sized Rossis, one .22 M511 Sportsman 4" stainless and one M68 3" .38. My .45 Blackhawk is light enough for hiking and such, yet accurate and powerful enough to actually hunt with. My serious handgun hunting, so far, has been with a Contender, though, I'll admit.
So, what do you prefer, DA or SA for an outdoor field gun and why?
