On a whim I picked up a can of Outers Foaming Bore Cleaner at Walmart to try cleaning pistols. Is anybody familiar with what's in this stuff and if it is safe for quality rifle barrels?
It's like spraying shaving cream looking stuff down the barrel, but it gets out copper like a bandit. You just spray it and wait. I tried it on a Lilja barrel on my AR match rifle and it cleaned great, but I'm nervous that it'll do something bad to the steel. Anybody got any thoughts? Thanks in advance, Joe Sacco

I've had zero problems with the stuff and higly endorse it. It has done no dmamge to any of my guns, including a Harrington and Richardson Greek issue M1 Garand from 1944 that I bought throught the CMP.

It is excellent stuff and I highly doubt it will do any damage to any steel. On that note, I will disclaim myself by saying ALWAYS test products new to your guns on an inconspicuous (and more improtantly) non-critical area of your firearm before going to town with it. :D

Better yet test it on someone else's gun.

I've used it on several rifles and so far no problems. Good on copper fouling, but I've had good luck on a couple mil surps that were VERY cruddy alternating it with a powder cleaner like Hoppes.

I like that stuff.
I scrub out the barrel with some CLP, wipe clean, then do the foaming cleaner to get all the copper out (and finish with some more oil).
It gets copper out better than any product I know of.

I seem to recall it's ammonia free, which SHOULD mean it's OK on chrome-lined barrels (yes?)

I know you're not supposed to use ammonia-based cleaners on chrome bores...

i've used it... it is safe for any barrel.

i don't think the foaming cleaners work as well as ammonia-based solvents, and i think they are a mess, but they do ok.

Works good on everything ive tried it on from ahndguns to rifles good stuff as said use it with hoppes and it does the trick in no time

Go for it!

I was a skeptic until I used it on a very cruddy Winchester 1902 single shot .22. It saved me a lot of labor.....Essex County

I had a problem with it!

Its applicator doesn't work real well with .17 bores. I had to tinker quite a bit to get a bore full of it. ;)

Once it was in there, it cleaned real well.
