I want to install an overtravel screw in a plastic 10/22 housing for a buddy. I have a 4-40 tap and set screw, but will the rear of the trigger guard hold the screw? it works with aluminum, but I don't know about this newfangled polymer stuff.

I want to install it where I have drawn the red line in the attached picture. (stock picture, not my housing)

What is the trigger made of? I always put them in the trigger but I have not done one on a new gun in a while.

Yes, I believe it will.

Put it in with Blue Locktight and adjust it, then don't mess with it and should will hold.

trigger, guard, its all plastic.

Doggone!
I would still attempt to put it in the trigger. Actually I'd look to see if there was a metal trigger and get one.

Don't think I'll be purchasing a new 10/22.

A hole in a plastic trigger will weaken a critical part.

A hole in the guard not so much.
It has more meat, and less stress put on it.

I tapped the trigger guard. seems to be holding so far. I'll take it out tomorrow.

most of the guts are the same, but the hammer has been redesigned. it's 1 cast piece now. no bushings. Makes it easier to remove and install, and doesn't seen to affect the trigger pull I can achieve. I still prefer the old stuff. The plastic trigger has some flex in it. Not really a fan of that as all.

Don't know if it will work on plastic but what I have done when using balsa wood was to drill slightly smaller than the suggested size. Then tap the hole with proper tap, then I would put a drop or two of CA (thin) glue and allow it to harden, then re-tap the hole again. Has worked great for me it might work for this application also.

I guess we'd just do this differently.
