I think he was referring to field stripping his new Body Guard .380 Auto rather than the Model 49 Body Guard .38 Spl.I've been shooting revolvers that long too, and have never field stripped one. The most you have to do to clean one is remove the stocks and swing out the cylinder. If it's working properly when you buy it, no reason to take it apart.
But I agree totally, the manuals are a bit wordy and make you think you're too stupid to own a gun. But.... they have to be written for the ones who ARE too stupid to own a gun. The makers don't control who buys them and they don't want to get sued. If you get hurt, they can wave the manual and say "Told You So".
And yes, tearing open revolvers isn’t needed very often, if ever.
