I was reading a thread in a Cz forum about cleaning the sights. People metioned repainting them and adding glow paint to make them glow in the dark. I just picked up my P-01 in the last few days and I already have glow in the dark sights. As I understand the thread, it is being reccomended by someone to repaint the non glowing sights so they glow. So is the pistol not supposed to have night sights? Did I get some on mine that got there by mistake? Is it an option that I got put on? They are the 3 dot sights.

Here's the thread: http://czechpistols82792.yuku.com/topic/1448/t/Cleaning-sights.html

Woah, woah, woah.

There is "glow in the dark" tritium with small glass vials. These are what is known as "night sights".

There is also "glow in the dark" that is merely paint, and is recharged by shining light on it. If your sights glow REALLY BRIGHT after shining a strong light on them and then fade, you have this kind.

Lastly, there is just a regular white dot sight that doesn't glow at all.

All of them will benefit from cleaning.

The P-01 came with glow-in-the-dark paint sights. You might want to consider upgrading to tritium sights.

Ahhh ok. I thought tritium and "glow in the dark" were the same. I hope me mistaking lowly paint sights as the same as night sight didn't upset anybody. So tritium from my passing knowledge is an isotope that has a constant glow regardless of the light, and glow in the dark is entirely different? The description of the paint sights makes sense. I wasn't sure when I got it, and I "charged" the sights under a lamp and they glowed much brighter. What's safe to clean these with?

The "mistaking" part isn't what bothered me, it was the possibility of "repainting" possibly tritium sights and ruining them. ;)

What's safe to clean these with?

Regular old CLP on a Q-tip will work to work the soot out of them.
