It's an easy gun to disassemble for cleaning and easier than cleaning gunk out all the nooks and crannies in a revolver.
I've experienced the "nook and cranny" part.......that seems to be a definite plus so far as the BE is concerned.

That IS tempting......though, that does bring up the question~ What is the average price for a shooter (i.e. non-nazi marked) P38/P1 vs a new/used BE?

Or a decent 1911 for sub $600? :banghead:

$269 for a P-1 is about right, tho I'd be skeptical that it is NIB, rarely fired maybe but anything is possible. About every P-1 I've seen comes with a holster, two magazines, and the original issue cleaning kit. Again, I recommend visiting www.p38forum.com to know how decipher any and all marks you might find on any example.

On the other hand a P-38 is not the same as a P-1. The P-38, except for the very last ones produced, were all associated with WWII and the Nazis so their collector value drives the price up even on shaky examples.

The Springfield GI-45 is a decent 1911 for under $600. I won one and enjoy shooting it but it is a reproduction of it's namesake, a military sidearm. It has minimal sights and isn't really very good out of the box as a target shooter (but an excellent self-defense room gun)
