Guns you'd like to see in .45?

9x19mm is, in all likelyhood, the most popular pistol cartridge in the world. Ergo, there are more pistols chambered for it than any other.

In the revolver side, .38/.357 has been the dominant cartridge since the end of the Second World War, with .38 Special probably taking the lead in sheer numbers of guns produced.

There are many, many fine guns out there chambered for these rounds. However, I find myself wishing that many of them were scaled up and rechambered for .45ACP. Am I the only one? What guns out there (that are currently only available in 9mm/.40/.357 Sig) would you like to see scalled up to .45ACP or 10mm? What revolvers out there would you like to see enlarged to handle (or perhaps you'd be happy with a 5-shot) .45ACP or 10mm?

REVOLVERS:

-GP100 - Scaled up slightly for .45/10mm. Not nearly so big as a Redhawk.

SEMIAUTOS:

-Steyr M Series: These pistols are very cool looking. I'd buy a .45 model in a heartbeat.

-Springfield XD: XD45, anyone? 4" and 5" versions, thin, double stack, 10-round magazine? (You can fit about 10 rounds of .45 in the same space as 15 rounds of 9mm, without widening the grip much at all.)

-Walther P99: Not the crappy S&W clone, either. (At least, I've heard it's crappy.) Again, would prefer the double-stack 10-round magazine. 10 is a nice, even number for a .45 (It's what my CZ-97 holds.)

-Browning Hi-Power: I don't especially want one, but I know a lot of High Roaders would be all over a .45 or 10mm BHP. To keep the naturally thin grip, a single stack mag would have to be utilized.

-Beretta 92: I think an oversized Beretta 92, holding 10+1 of .45ACP, with it's 5" barrel (and preferably the safety of the Taurus 92) would be AWESOME.

-Jericho 941/Baby Eagle: They make a compact .45, but not a full sized. Sure, it's a CZ clone, but I like its lines. And, a full sized Jericho .45 could probably take my CZ-97/EAA Witness mags!

-Ruger PC Carbine: Not a handgun, but I'd love one of these in .45. They'd probably make it take Ruger pistol mags, but I'd prefer higher capacity.

-Kahr: There are several Kahr guns that I'd like to see scaled up to .45ACP, including the T9 and the Mk. 9. Imagine the T45: 4" barrel, super thin design that, while wider than the 9mm, is still narrower and lighter than even a 1911...

-Kel-Tec: Both the pocket pistol and the carbine would make nice .45s.



That's all I can think of for now.

*whew* What a morning. 100x pushups, 100x situps (not all in one shot, mind you) and a 4-mile jog. GAWD. I can't decide which I loathe more; pushups or running.

Anyways. Aside from a scaled up GP100 (let's call it the GP200) in .45ACP, I'd like to see the regular GP100 frame turned into a .45 too. Specifically, the fixed sight model with the smaller grip. It'd make a very neat .45ACP 2", 3", or 4" carry gun. Plus, you could load it up with .45 Super if you want power in a small package. (If you're crazy like me and LIKE the idea of a .41 Magnum snubby...). Hee hee.

Anyways...

-HKP7: A P7, 7+1 capacity .45ACP would probably be very appealing to the fans of the P7 series of pistols.

Supposedly the Beretta 92 design won't work with .45ACP. I'm no gun doc, but supposedly it has to do with the open slide, that's why they went with the closed slide on that Cougar.

I'm not a huge fan of the .45, but I would like a Beretta-manufactured 1911.

Why? I mean, there's literally no end of 1911 makers out there. All of what used to be "custom" features are available in factory models nowadays, and everybody wants to get into the act (including Smith & Wesson, for crying out loud). But why a Beretta 1911, specifically? Just a big Beretta fan?

I didn't like my Kimber 1911 and don't like my Springfield rifle. Never had a Colt anything though.

Rob, the S&W 625 is available in a 2" Scandium/stainless model now, or you could cut down a regular stainless to 2" or 3".

Dr Rob, you can get a short .45 revolver from Taurus. It's a Tracker. They can be had from the factory with a 2 inch barrel.

I've been tempted to get one of these myself.

Yeah, I agree with the GP100 but with a 4" barrel, not the 6". I used to have one and sold it and I have been kicking myself ever since. One of the few revolvers I like the look and feel of.

The one I want doesn't exist. I want one about the size of a mid size glock, polymer frame, single stack to make it thin, and here is the catch. Although it is striker fired, it should have a trigger as good as a 1911 and a safety. I can dream can't I?

Taurus doesn't make a 92 pattern .45. It's a tilt barrel, like a Ruger, and not as nice as a Ruger.

The osilating block in the Berettas and Tauris can't take that amount of recoil. Some oscillating blocks do (Chinese .45 Mauser), but the P38/92 design, which only has a 20,000 to 30,000 round block life in 9mm, isn't stong enough for that level of recoil.

The open top slide is only an issue for the same reason it was an issue for the Seals: it's not very strong either, and may break. This wouldn't be an issue for a P38, which has the recoil springs behind the breach.



I'd just like the .45 HK P9S to be put back in production, but with a heavier slide or better buffer. Amazing gun.
