Hi all. I am wondering my Ruger p95 can handle +p ammo. I have read around on the internet that it can, but I would feel a little better about trying some if I heard from more people that have actually done it.

I don't plan on putting a steady diet of them through it, just some to practice and then decide if I prefer them to regular 9mm for defense.

It can handle +P. Ruger did extensive testing with +P+ during the development of the P-95. In fact the P series owner's manual used to state that +P and +P+ were acceptable in Ruger 9mms.;)

Ive only shot a few hundred +P in my p95 nd so far so good.

I don't have the slightest doubt in my mind that it can/will handle it.

Run all the +P you want, it won't hurt it.

As for self defense, the most important things in self-defense pistol shooting are shot placement, shot placement, shot placement, shot placement, shot placement, shot placement, bullet design/type, momentum of the bullet, shot placement, shot placement, and shot placement.

In other words, practicing til you're a good shot is vastly more important than running +P ammo, and a good modern bullet design is more useful than the 50 to 100 fps or so extra velocity you get with a +P cartridge.

But, your P95 will handle any quantity of +P without complaint.

It'll be fine, like any other modern service-type pistol.

And the Rugers are pretty overbuilt compared to most of the other pistols out there, it won't even notice you bumped the power level up slightly.
