P225 What's the difference?

I went to a local gun store that does a high volume of business and it was crazy in there. The reason I went was that when I called the day before, they carried the NIB P225 with night sights + 3 mags.
So i went in and in the display case is two P225's....One is marked P225 : 225-9-POLIZEI and priced at $779....the other is P225 with the New Hampshire writing on the side and priced at $799.
The salesperson couldn't tell me the difference....both have night sights, 3 mags, and look identical except for the writing. Is the difference internal? Differen't trigger pull?

I believe that the 9-Polizei was a special run for the German police---if what I heard was correct, there were about 500 of them made. These are 100% German guns, vs. the "regular" P225 being 1/2 German and 1/2 from Exeter, NH. Otherwise, I believe that the guns are identical.

Actually all P225s are 100% German made and assembled. They both should have proof marks on the bottom front of the slide to "prove" that. The one with the New Hampshire (actually Exeter NH, the home of Sig Sauer) stamp is officially imported by Sig. The other gun is just from a different , maybe the last, manufacturing run and may have been imported by another company, either C.A.I Georgia VT. or PW Arms Redmond WA, I don't remember which.

Does the 225-9-Polizei gun have "German Police" stamped on it? If it does, it is what I feel, basically a marketing gimmick because the German Police had already switched from the P6 (the German police version of the P225) when these guns came out. There should be no difference between the two guns except for the police stamp and the import stamp, but I thought the "official" Sig (NH) import gun only came with 2 mags. I don't know why the Sig P225 is more expensive. I would go with the best deal.

BTW the trigger was heavier on the German police version P6s (28lb mainspring), but all P225s have the lighter (24lb spring) trigger.

Thanks...that helped out a lot...I might go with the better deal and try and talk them down a few more $. To me I could care less what is written on the side. I like that it is a Sig P225, feels great in my hand, and conceals well.

Gee, find a used Sig P6...same gun and you can get 'em for around $400. Yes, they are used, but the one I bought used has never jammed, no FTE's either.

Oh, you should also be aware that Sig mags run about $54 apiece!

I have looked around for about a year here for either a P6 or used P225. As for the P6's...i have not found any made any sooner than 1980. I wanted to the newer improved feed ramp that takes hollow points easier. Also the conditions of the P6's i found are not the greatest. I would also be adding nightsites and two mags. $400 + $80 +$100...I rather have it all new for that cost....All the used P225's have been over $500 without night sights.....I am partial to the getting a new P225 than revamping an older one.

Indeed. Wolf has the springs available for less than $10. My P6 is wonderfully accurate, well finished, and reliable. It does have a VERY heavy DA trigger which I will likely swap out the spring to lighten in the future, but for the time being I usually shoot it SA anyways so it's not been too pressing of an issue.

I have an 11/79 P6 that appears to have had the feed ramp polished because it has fed hollow points flawlessly so far. I also swapped out the main(hammer)spring with a 22lb Wolff. The gun shoots great! I only have about $420 ($380 for the gun, shipping, FFL + $40 for the spring and to have a gunsmith put it in for me ) invested in the gun with plain sights.

That said, I am about to pull the trigger on a late '90s P225 because I've always regretted not getting one back in the '80s and really wanted the commercial version - I don't like the funky hammer among other things - so I can kind of understand where dantesgate is coming from.

BTW, my P6 is a 1980 in great shape and it's never failed to feed or eject. Dunno if the feed ramp was messed with or not, but it sure is a fine little gun.

I bought a CAI imported 225/P6 in January. My P6 has a 09/98 date stamped into the side of the slide. I bought it for $400 and it has run flawlessly since the first time I shot it. Other than a little bit of holster wear, it's perfect.

I'm getting the same gun, NIB P225n/r 9mm with Sig 3-dot night sights, 3 mags and it does say German Police on the one rt-side of the lower portion of the slide..

It also has the standard trigger (which I like better than the SRT short reach triggers) and it has the standard hammer.. not the one on the P6's.

The DA/SA was/is incredibility smooth and light, as well as a very clean SA break.

Gonna be a nice all German Sig to add to my small herd..

Looking forward to getting it with a few more layaway payments to be made soon.

The only difference between a P6 and a P225 is the heavier mainspring, and therefore the trigger pull, and the notch in the hammer of the P6. Everything else is the same as should be the accuracy, assuming you can adjust and shoot just as accurately with the heavier trigger. Any difference in accuracy should be a difference in individual guns, not a difference between the P6 and P225.
