Store near here has several P226 DAK (at least I think they're DAK - trigger feels a lot lighter than the usual SIG DA) .40 S&W models on hand - said to be police trade-ins, serial numbers put them around 2006 production. German frames, Exeter slides. They appear gently used, price $600. Good deal, bad deal, par for the course? What is the general opinion of the DAK trigger?

I generally see dak for less around here. I'm not a fan of the dak on sigs. I'm also not the biggest fan of 40. Between the price the caliber and the trigger I'd pass but that's just me.

I don't know about the price. But I like the DAK trigger, much nicer than a traditional DAO trigger if you're a DAO fan.

Sounds a bit high for a LE trade-in, but I haven't been keeping up with the buying frenzy prices. Before the last run on guns, you could get LE trade-ins 226s for $400-$450, so a bump to $500-$550 might not be unusual. A lot depends on your region...these prices were in CA.

The DAK is a easy to learn trigger system and the ones I've shot have been very accurate. I'm not a huge fan of .40, but it is a very common LE calibre choice...I'd personally drop in a factory 357SIG barrel

I bought one here in Central Florida both before and after the latest craze (August 2012 and March 2013) and the gun in March was $100 more, 500 shipped to 600 shipped. New ones have climbed up these days about as much, so $600 isn't a terrible number. But the gun better be in darn good shape. I don't mind buying used P-series pistols because they're a great value, but there needs to be a good incentive to do so. The panic sellers trying to sell their used standard P226 at $1100 are going to be waiting a long time for a sucker to come along, because for that you can get a new one and more.

357 SIG is a real fire-breather. It was fun for a while but the novelty wears off.

The idea of a .357 SIG barrel is appealing and one of the reasons I'm considering this gun.

That's a pretty fair deal, it is hard to find a new P 220/226 series new for less than $850 right now. Especially if it has nite sights on it.

I am being sorely tempted by these guns. I really like the feel of the DAK trigger, especially compared to the DA pull of my P6. I've been carrying and shooting DA revolvers lately and the DAK trigger was somewhat reminiscent of the LCR's trigger. I don't mind the heavy DA trigger of a DA/SA SIG on the first shot, but I wouldn't want a DAO that was that heavy.

$600 is a fair price. DAK is my first choice for the Sigs. I treat it as DAO. Always let the trigger reset fully. The only time DAK kicks in is when the trigger is short stroked.
