went to the range today with my friend an he carried his sig p226 that he got used. It fired good the first 100 rounds then it fail to feed about every three or so rounds. i know its hard to say without being there or seeing it. i think it could be the old spring in the mag.( he had two mags and it happen with both.) anyone have any problems with there older sig. older- few thousand rounds.

Difficult to say without more details, but I'll take a stab at it.

First and foremost replace the magazine springs. Contact Sig and they may cover them as warranty work (they did on mine but it was a CPO gun).

Second, did you do a field strip and cleaning before taking the gun out? I doubt that is the cause, but it may be a contributing factor.

Third, what kind of mags are you using? Generally you should stick to either Sig or Mec-Gar mags. Anything else is asking for trouble. Some people have had luck with Pro-Mag, etc but I've never heard of problems with the OEM magazines.

Those are the only things that come to mind. The Sigs have a reputation of running flawlessly no matter what you do to them. Good luck!

Clean your Sig. Many feeding and reliability problems can be solved by a simple and thorough cleaning. Field strip your piece and clean out any accumulated grime and gunk. Be sure to lubricate the rails and the outside of the barrel before reassembly.

Lubricate your Sig. I can't emphasize this enough. Sigs like to run a bit "wet". Make sure you use some lubricant on the rails and the outside of the barrel to reduce friction. Do this EVERY time you shoot.

Did I mention to lubricate your Sig? BreakFree will do. TW25b is excellent.

Clean your magazines. You mentioned that the Sig was used. The magazines could be full of crap too. I think this is more likely the problem than weak magazine springs. But you probably should replace them anyway.

Oh, and last but not least, lubricate your Sig.

You should have no furthur problems.

The only time when my first P226 (and it replacement) failed to chamber correctly (other than when the frame rail broke) was when the rails ran dry of oil. I had fired about 2-3 magfuls before it started not going fully into battery and I noticed the dry rails. After lubing, it ran fine again.

All good ideas. Hadn't really thought about the lube part; I baby my pistols so I kind of assumed it. :p

That being said, I ran my P229 through 550 rounds over three days with zero maintenance with no problems. As long as it starts out lubed properly, it'll keep running. :)

I agree with everyone who mentioned lubrication...i left my sig dirty when i got it to see what it coud do..I heard somewhere that sigs like to run kinda wet..i shot 700 rounds over 4 range visits..never really cleaned it..just lubbed the slide and went and shot the hell out of it..ran like a dream.
Now..i baby her and love her and keep her nice and clean

moral...keep your sig lubed and she wont fail!
