Overheard at my local shop a conversation between two customers:

1G "I'm thinking of getting a P228."

2G "Is that a SIG?"

1G "Yeah, I think so, SIG is that German company, right?"

2G "Yeah, but get a Tanfoglio because Beretta makes them."

1G "Really? But I've been thinking about a SIG."

2G "P228? That's an obsolete gun. It's junk man. Get a Tanfoglio or a Glock."

1G "I thought SIG were good guns?"

2G "Told you man, they're junk."

I almost said something but where would I even start?

The SIG P series, like other West German Police trial guns, is a 1975 design.

Glock is early 1980s.

There are much more modern designs to choose from. USP
and the XD come to mind. Same for the Walther P99.

Frankly, if i'm going to carry a gun designed in 1975.
It will be the BEST gun in the eyes of many..the CZ75.

Obsolete?

I suspect there are some fans of John Moses Browning around here that will argue that newer isn't necessarily better. :D

I'm not quite ready to toss my P228, or its big brother P220, onto the junk pile just yet.

Thank you , jar. Dang, an 1975 design, eh? And the Porsche 911 is a 1964 design, and the 1911 is a, well, 1911 design, . . I could go on -. A proven design is a good thing.

I was born before 1975...does that mean I am obsolete. On second thought, don't answer that!

I love my 228 and am not ready to retire it.

Hey, I resemble that remark.
And the Porsche 911 is a 1964 design, and the 1911 is a, well, 1911 design,
IIRC, the M1911 design predates 1911. Didn't Browning build the first one around 1906 and that was based on guns that he designed in the mid 1890s?

May I ask, how long did the 1911 go until it was replaced?
Around 80 years?
What about the M2HB Browning?
Yet, they are both among the most respected weapons known to man.
The SIG is far from obsolete, but anyone who has ever been hit with a rock would say the same about rocks.;)
More senseless yammering...

Beretta making Tanfoglios, so get the Tanfoglio.
Huh? Even if that poor leap of logic was true... it has to be asked... then why not just get a Beretta?

You gotta love these guys.

Sad, because it kept a potential SIG owner from a great pistol.
Obsolete? Not until we get laser guns, blasters, and phazers.

I would have chuckled out loud at that one.

Oh yeah, basically he's saying guns like the Sig P220, P226, P229, P225, and P239 are obsolete as well. Why is it that our military (P228), FBI (some still pack P226/P228), Secret Service (P229), and numerous state and local police agencies (P220, P226, P228, P229, and P239) are issued these obsolete designs??

I don't know, its just too absurd to believe.

I own one. It shoots well. Obsolete? No!

As for telling someone the truth...remember to never cast pearls before swine. The reasons are obvious.
