Philadelphia Gay man who was attacked and stabbed attacker in self defense freed by judge

Needless to say I intend to see if I can find a way to get a hold of Mr. Dawson and urge him to buy a handgun and get a carry permit pronto.

I find it rather bad that a lot in the gay community believe that whistles and cell phones will stop anti-gay mobs. This proves that deadly force and only deadly force can put a stop to it, whether it be by gun, knife, crossbow, etc etc...

Nah...do a search for "pink pistols". They had a rep on one of the news things denouncing the SF gun ban. They've been trying to get members of that community to arm themselves against attackers by taking the NRA courses and doing concealed-carry.

Like I said in another post, realistic people on all sides of the political spectrum are ***'ing at the SF thing. As of now, I'd characterize the whole thing as 'Americans' versus 'wealthy hypocrites with armed bodyguards and people with irrational fears of guns'.

"Assistant District Attorney MK Feeney praised Dawson for turning himself in to police, who had no suspect in the case. But she argued that a jury should decide whether Dawson's actions were self-defense.

Knight was stabbed more than once, she said, but Dawson required no medical care for his injuries from the beating. Feeney said her office would review the judge's decision and decide whether to appeal."

Now what did I learn from this story.

"small knife .... stabbed him in the chest ...... died within an hour."

So much for the need for years of fancy knife fighting training.

So, if you are effective at preventing harm to yourself, you should face more legal jeapardy than those not so efective? Feeney needs a therapeutic pimp slap.

I, too, would recommend that the attacked fellow move up the technology chain to a firearm.

As an Assistant Prosecutor, I find it amusing that she claims that the jury should make the determination as to whether it was self-defense or not. Personally, if I'm not convinced for certain of a person's guilt, I reject the case. I guess she must present every case to a jury then, and never rejects anything...:barf:

It beats having to think ... and that way she can never be accused of favoritism, or being "soft on crime."
:barf:
One might think, though, that when a judge says "forget it" the prosecutor should just say "okay" rather than considering an appeal ... at least in all but the most egregious cases.

Too bad he didn't bag more than one.

the article said:
"I mean, seven guys jumped me and one guy died," he said. "That's still six other people that want to hurt me."
Yup. This man needs a gun.

the article said:
Dawson said he plans to leave home now because he fears retaliation.
This is just sad. I would hope that somebody would try to help this person see that he should not have to leave his home.

He needs a gun, training, and a permit to carry it.

In lieu of a permit to carry it ... he needs a gun, and training.

Seven people can easy beat someone to death even with bare hands.
