So I shot my friend's AK today. He loaned it to me and I cleaned it up really good. Prior to loaning it to me he'd NEVER cleaned it the entire 3 years and countless amount of rounds he put through it. So I took it out today and put aroubnd 100 rounds through it, som e rapid fire. It did well, but the most glaring thing was a really painful trigger slap. It felt like all of the recoil was centered in the trigger. My trigger finger still aches.

Is this characteristic of all AK's or just WASR's or what does it mean?

no it isn't a problem in all ak's. my mak doesn't do that, but my dads yugo does but not that bad, but noticable. the way i have fixed it in the past is to have a tapco trigger put in and you should be good to go.

ive heard alot of older ones have that problem, alot of newer ones have tapco triggers so they are fine. i have shot a chinese ak a while ago and it had trigger slap to i was done after 7 rounds.

stock AK triggers suck. They are grainy and heavy, even if they don't have the trigger slap problem. Look for a tapco G2 trigger. My converted Saiga has one, and it's not bad. Definitely an improvement.

Not sure--my WASR has the Tapco trigger group, while the trigger aint match quality, it is pretty comfortable to shoot..

i shouldnt say painful but it did NOT feel good. more of a dull ache. nice to know the gun isnt messed up though. ill look at the tapco upgrade but in the emantimne i should think some decent gloves would work.

He is going to be mad you cleaned it! That would be like if my wife washed my truck.

Anyways, yeah, Tapco G2.

I've had a few Romanian AK's (SAR series) and both of those would slap you pretty bad at times.

I've had AK's that had it and some that didnt. Even with the slap, the AK's triggers are usually a lot nicer than the AR's stock triggers, of any make.

You can try to file the slap out of the trigger. It may work, it may not. If your going to replace the trigger, I'd opt for spending the extra money and get the Red Star Arms trigger over the Tapco. The one Tapco trigger I have is not as nice as the trigger it replaced. Its pull is rough and crunchy, and if you take up the slack, and dont let it off, the next time you do, its basically a hair trigger and lets off as you touch it. Not the best thing on this type of rifle, or any working rifle for that matter.

I have one of the RSA triggers on an old SAR1, and its a very nice trigger. Its also adjustable, and will allow you to have either a military two stage type trigger, or a single stage without the take up, as well as for let off weight. They are pricey compared to the Tapco, but they are worth the money.

No, and not all of 'em.

Century commissioned some US made fire control groups, and had them modeled on full auto parts. The tail of the disconnecter is the culprit in the "trigger slap" event (none of the other US made trigger groups have this tail).

There is an easy fix for the Century FCG.

Century went to using Tapco trigger groups a couple of years ago, so modern WASRs don't have 'trigger slap'.

No factory Kalashnikov (from an actual military factory - not a monkey house) has trigger slap.

Man, if I let someone borrow my AK and they cleaned it, I think I would remove them from my will. I keep up with my cleanings religiously. First time was when I bought it, second time will be if/when it ever jams.

The new WASR's come with the G2 trigger and they have no slap, nice cheap triggers, not match grade but good.

Hopefully your life won't depend on it when it jams and you give it that second cleaning. No excuse except laziness not to clean a rifle. It's not a macho thing to brag about.

"Hello, and welcome to Texas AK Triggers.

We offer the finest US made Kalashnikov trigger sets available.

Our triggers are made from an improved design of Ivan Kolev, former Chief Designer for the Arsenal Co. Kazanlak factory. These parts are made to Mr. Kolev's specifications in alloy, heat treatment and dimensions, and the foundry making them is held to very high standards. Each of the 3 parts is marked with the outline of the State of Texas.

These fire control groups will work in any Kalashnikov or actual variant, to name just a few: Saiga rifles and shotguns, Russian AK-47, AKM, AK-74, AK-101, AK-102, AK-103, AK-104, AK-74m and AK-105 and others, Hungarian SA-85 and others, Bulgarian AKs with stamped and milled receivers, Chinese AKs, Yugoslavian M64, M70AB1, M70AB2, M76, M92 "Krinkov", M95 and others. These will also work in the Galil/Golani rifles and the VEPR rifles from the Molot Arsenal in Russia"

Notice the part saying it was made from an Improved design from Kolev himself; I spoke with the owner of this company, and he told me that he spoke with some of the origional designers in russia himself to get this trigger right. It is a great FCG, to have.
