Can anyone reccomend a product for making the front sight on my XD white again. I was gonna use some White Out, but I think that would be ultra-ghetto plus it'd probably come right off..

You can see what I mean here. I took both pics in the same light. This is

the XD front sight.

Any ideas? Thanks..

White lacquer fingernail polish. Cheap and easy and it lasts a pretty long time.

I put a drop of flouresent yellow on my lame CZ sights, really brighten things up. I couldn't find model paint and used some water based airbrush paint from an art store, still looks good:)

Go to an auto parts store and buy some automotive touch up paint.
Degrease the spot well and apply the paint. Auto paint is TOUGH, especially white.

good posts and advice above.

I bought some "glow" paint on sale at a local sporting goods shop that was specifically for gun sights - "Ghost..." something-or-other. A waste of a few bucks...the paint glows enough to see IF ya hold it directly under a bright lamp for a few minutes immediately beforehand, and then quickly fades from "glow" to "barely-see"; not very useful.

Use model paint or nail polish.

OMG! I thought this was a very very common solution....
use a wax pencil or CRAYON. fills it in and lasts forever.

I use a white crayon on the "safe" engraving of ar-15's and a red for the "fire" engraving. You can also use the white to bring out the engraving on the side of your firearms as well...just draw over the engraving and rub it off with a cloth, lasts forever.

I bought the special "sight paint" from Brownells for the front sight of Rock Island Armory 1911. Waste of money. What's on there now is one coat of pearlesent finger nail polish with a coat of orange over it. Lasts a while and then has to be replaced. Sounds like the appliance touch up enamel (mentioned in the referenced thread) might be tougher than other options

For what it is worth I have used Tester model paint (white)
and for red, a nail polish advertised as tough as nails.
Both seem to hold up, but the key is to degrease the metal
with lighter fluid on clean paper towel before painting.

Bright sights paint works well and lasts a long time between applications, but any white paint will probably work. Use rubbing alcohol to clean and prep, dry area and apply with a toothpick. Apply multiple times until cutout is filled completely then place pistol muzzle down to allow paint to dry for an hour or two.

Another vote for Testors. Last surprising well, and cheap, too. Ditto the degreasing. Plus, you can clean up any spill-over with a patch of CLP.

The auto paint seems like it'd work as well. A while back, I used some flat black to touch up a ding on my CZ, and it's still there. I'd imagine it work even better for sights.

You can always solve the whole problem and get a set of night sights. They are always bright, day or night. :)

I have not been here in a while these are good response's to the question, all have good thoughts.
If you have not decided yet, just plain old "white-out" (typing mistake on paper) is not bad either.

Ditto on Testors. I have used it many times over the years! Cheap at Wal-Mart too!a perfectionist like me, buy the bottle of the paint remover/cleaner by testors too - I usually take 3-4 tries before I get it perfect in the depression of the sight w/o a screwup.

I bought this in the Crafts section of walmart. It works very well and is easy to use. They had several colors including white.
