This may be a really stupid question but does anyone paint their front sight on an AR? I'm having problems picking up the front sight quickly (it's a generic square post) and thought maybe painting the top white or a day glo color might help.

I've looked at fiber optic front sights but the reviews are really mixed and many require a half turn or full turn instead of the usual quarter turn.

Or is this just a case where I need to buck up for Lasik or just deal with my old eyes?

I put paint on my front sights when needed, too. I usually use spray can white paint and just spray some on some paper in a pool, then use a tooth pick to dab it on.

I just put it on the top portion of the sight. For instance, if the sight has glare reducing grooves, I'll put paint in the top two grooves.

What I like best is a white dot painted on a black post. That way, if the white dot goes against a white background you still have the black outline of the sight to see. To make the dot stick, you pretty much need to drill a divot for the paint to go into, just like on a pistol sight.

I'm 45 and paint mine too. I use Tester's DayGlo orange model paint and the finest brush I could find. Works great...I touch it up maybe once a year on the guns which get shot and cleaned the most.

Same age, same paint color, great results!

But I do upgrade to Fiber Optic or Nightsights every chance I get...getting old sucks,
but its better than the alternative of pushing up daisies ;)

Glad to see painting the front sight wasn't a crazy idea. I'l give it a try.

Big Shrek what fiber optic sights have you tried? I odn't know anyone using them an AR so have no good feedback on them.
