I'm interested in painting a Houge 10/22 (rubber) rifle stock. Does anyone have experience doing this? How did it turn out? Does it ruin the soft rubber feel of the stock?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have been thinking about this quite a bit....and curious to see if anyone replies... i have seen a few threads pop up that suggest Kryolon fusion as a good option, or another rattle can that is specifically designed for plastics, and even more so flexible plastics.

Tagging to see other replies....

in all honesty......your going to have a really difficult time getting paint to stick to rubber........even with those fancy paints......and even if you do....it is never going to to be durable enough to sustain and considerable use....it will begin to wear almost instantly and will look terrible after your first range outing.

there are plenty of cheap stocks for the 10/22......i would strongly recommend simply buying a new one and painting that to your color of choice.......it will save you a lot of hassle in the end.

+1 on just getting a new stock... But if i were to do it i would definitely use a quality spray paint and maybe look into coating it with some kind of lacquer? I don't know though. Best of luck

If you do a search on this, youll find a number of threads on it across the boards. Krylon Fusion and a product called Bulldog, which is some sort of prep for this keep popping up. Users claim good results.

Ive been thinking of doing the Houge over molded stock on my Remington SPS, as black is about the worst color for a rifle. I think even if it were to spiderweb or alligator in places, it would still do the job, as long as it didnt flake off.

Now all I have to do is cut that silly recoil pad off too. :)

I don't know what will work, btu I can tell you that my Son tried this with a new XD that he bought for his wife. She wanted the grips pink. First he tried some special stuff in a rattle can that is made for plastics and it started coming off the first day or two. So he took it ti friend that does custom paint and body and he used different chemicals to inhance adhession and it still didn't work.

Good luck, and remember it is very difficult to make things look right if the project fails.

Krylon fusion is pretty cool but I don't think it'll hold up on the overmold stocks. They are a bit cushy and that flex will allow the paint to crack. I shot my saiga 12 with it which has a limbsaver recoil pad and the first outing it started cracking on the pad.
There are all kinds of fancy wood and poly stocks for the 10/22 that would work better for painting.
