Painting an AR

anyone have a preference for stencils?
Stencils work for some patterns, others do better with a brush.

For patterns, I use sheets of printer/notebook paper, and just cut random shapes. Cheap and effective.

With Multicam, its better to hold the pattern loosely, or slightly above the gun, so you get a little "over spray", which more mimics the blend you get with Multicams pattern.

Other patterns come out better with sharp edges.

Painting with a brush gives you more definition than you usually get with spray cans.

This was OD Aluma Hyde II as a base, and the "pattern" was done with Testors, using a brush....

The AK above was stripped later on, and is the same AK I repainted in Multicam that I posted above in post #20.

You guys are making me want an AR with all these beautiful custom camo ones.

Id do a Snow Camo since im in Michigan and use top notch spray paints stuff the taggers on the streets use. Probably just sponge it.

Why dump all your money on an AR and accessories if your just going to use cheap paint on it. Go all out, your rifle deserves it.

For winter camo, I just use either white tape, or some of the newer ace bandage type wraps over the existing paint job. That way I dont have to repaint.

Dude, SVTOhio how did you get that digital look with a rattle can? It looks awesome.

Search DIY digital gun camo on YouTube and you will find pretty detailed directions. It goes on in layers adding checkered pieces of painters tape.

This is my rustolium camo paint. It's been on for about a year and a half and had been very durable
