I would like to paint the front bead something that would be somewhat visible at night? Any suggestions on something that would last in the long run?

I haven't seen anything so far that really works well enough to depend on, that can be easily applied by the end user.

I like tritium for night sights, but a properly fitted shotgun that has been used/practiced with/trained with enough so that it shoots where you look is the best bet in the long run.

Meprolight and Trijicon both make shotgun beads with tritium. They will likely require drilling and tapping to install as beads on many shotguns these days are pressed in rather than threaded. For traditionalists, plain gold beads are the most likely to gather any available light and reflect it to the shooter.

I got a replacement fibre optic front "bead" for my Mossberg (but the kit came with posts for at least a dozen different guns) for $5 from Wal Mart.

Much as I hate the Wally, this was a bargain. It snatches up even the smallest scrap of light and almost glows. And if there isn't enough light for that, you probably shouldn't be pulling the trigger.......

I've got a fiber optic sight somewhere in my box for my 870. But I never figured out how to remove the front bead. Obviously, it will twist out. I was just marring it up trying to unscrew it though.
