I posted a WTB a few weeks ago on the S&W forum and got two responses from fellow forum members. Both had great guns for reasonable prices. I just couldn't decide which to get, so followed the tried and true logic of "get both".

25-2 1980 from Utah.44. Hardly shot, minimal turn line, dark blue.

I have a regular practice of running 200 rounds through all my new guns the day they arrive. It was cold and rainy, but I put at least 225 rounds through each of these guns this afternoon. I had two 100 round boxes of .45auto rim, 200 gr swc with 4.0 clays and three almost full boxes of .45acp, 200 gr swc with Clays and 231 and a slew of moon clips.

Sighted them in on paper at 20 yards, then shot clay birds off the bank at the back of the bay at 35-40 yards. What a hoot.

Probably replacing the grips.

Simply beautiful. I've got a nice one myself, Model of 1955

Nothing I've run across sends a .45acp down range with more grace and civility.

Hey - that's not fair!
You're supposed to post a drool warning!!!

Good thing church is tomorrow.
For I have committed the sin of coveting.

Dang purty guns

I have two S&W 45 ACP revovlers also. One is a Model 25-2 the other is a M28-2 I reworked to handle the ACP cartridge. Both are great for the purposes I use them.

You reload your own ammunition, have you considered using the Lyman 454423 (235 grain Keith) or 454424 (260 grain Keith) bullets? Both of my revovlers shoot them well. Some fellows report good luck witht he 280 grain Keith bullet also. At 900 fps all the bullets hit well.

Thanks for the bullet suggestions. Where do you purchase them? What powder are you using?

I shoot mostly 200 gr swc, 230 gr rnfp and 255 gr swc all made by a local guy. He does a good job and it is nice to support a local business.

I cast all my bullets. If you are not into casting, I suggest you consider it. A bit of an investment to get started (pot, ladle, and other minor items) but once the initial tools are acquired all you need is lead and molds.

In the interim, check with these guys.

I am sure there are other custom casters on the market but these were recommended to me as being good. I have not needed to use them.

For load recipes, the best loads for the 25-2 can be found in a variety of places. Here are a couple of links.

Thanks for the information. I have an older Speer with the 260 gr data. The 250 gr swc and rnfp my local guy casts look like they will work for now.
