Finally got an SFAR for a price I was willing to pay! Shot 20 rounds of M80 Armscor and 15 of Federal 168 BTHP match. Shot softer than I expected and was a lot of fun. As I was making room in my ever shrinking gun safe, I pulled out the GSR. Bought it a few years ago for a song from a co-worker who had done the paint job. I kept it up with mag and strike eagle. Rifle is ugly, but man can it shoot. What surprised me was when I hung them both from the scale. SFAR 9.32 lbs with a heavy vortex, 9.36 lbs for the GSR. The GSR does have the massive break, but it gives you an idea of how light that SFAR is for a .308! I may even hunt with the autoloader when November rolls around.

I have a pair also. 20" SFAR has been reliable and accurate, 5/8" best and about 1" average at 100 yds. My GSR is a blued 16" with the plastic stock. It's sub 1" easily. Very light and the factory brake really tames the recoil. I mostly shoot it with the iron sights. The GSR might be my choice for the "one rifle" scenario.

Congrats on your SFAR.

I got an SFAR in May. I really like mine. I got the 16” version as well. I put a Leupold 3-9x33 Vari-X on it that I have had for years. I was just going to use the scope for the break in of the rifle then get a different scope for it but I like the set up so much I am just going to leave it. It’s going to be my primary deer rifle this year.

Nice rifles. I've been eyeing that GSR for a while now. The only thing that kept me away was the weight. Now that I have my light rifles, the GSR may very well be next.

In my opinion, the SFAR (or a very similar clone) should have been the basis for the new Sig 6.8 rifle supposedly replacing the M4/M16 series. The weight penalty is negligible compared to the 5.56 weapons. The R&D $ should have been invested into a 7.62 NATO SLAP round that worked well in the rifle, to increase armor defeat, increase effective range, minimize additional weight penalty, and keep NATO standardization. Older legacy type 7.62 like M80 and the precision rounds could have been used as well as alternatives. PMAG makes a reliable 25 round capacity mag for the AR10 (the only drawback would be this -5 round capacity VS the 30 of the M4), and existing 20 round mags in current service for use with the MK 11/M110 sniper rifles would also be compatible. Suitable suppressors, optics, and other accessories already abound. The 5.56 M249 SAW could have been replaced with the combat proven 7.62 NATO MK48 LMG, used extensively by SOF. But no one asked me, and what do I know anyway.

Put the Leupold 3-15x44 on it. With bipod, still comes in under 10lbs!

Are you saying that rifle is a .308 and comes in at under 10lbs as pictured?

I've always discounted the SFAR as just another AR10 varient. Man, I've gotta stay off of this forum. My list just keeps getting longer and priorities are changing as the seconds tick away on the clock.

My plan this afternoon was to take a ride to cabelas to pick up a Ruger Ranch in 6.5 Grendel, but now I'm thinking an AR pattern in .308 at less than 10lbs would be even cooler.
